It is really just my speculation as they never actually went forward with the plans due to the 180.  IMO, there were several things on the table that did not scream ethically sound.  The policies for always online and to check in once every 24 hours were basically making the console largely unuseable in countries / areas with terrible and unreliable internet connectivity which is relatively common and something people take for granted, yet they were certainly planning on selling it there anyway. (South America, Eastern Europe, Southern Asia etc.)  I also felt the want to limit how previously bought games could be accessed was bad.  MS was basically saying that all armed servicepersons would not be able to game on their XBox1 at sea, or deployed to remote locations with no or limited internet, which is hugely popular with 360 and those folks, and let's face it if you live that stressed a life you deserve to play the new consoles just like everyone else.  Serious questions about privacy also went unanswered regarding always on Kinect despite ongoing NSA headlines.

Also there was the whole paying youtube creators to promote X1 but making them unable to disclose they were being paid or say anything bad about the console which many claim violates FTC rules.

None of these things are illegal but I find them leaning towards unethical.  All that being said I did buy an X1 after getting a PS4 myself anyways, as I don't hold grudges towards companies or people who make the right decisions going forward.  While some may seem like not that big of a deal, it's important to look at them from the mindset of an uninformed average consumer.

With the original direction MS was going, I higly doubt they could have sold the X1 in countries that do not have decent internet.  For a device that wants to be everything to everyone, it was really a stupid move more than unethical.  This is what I was saying in a previous post.  A lot of decisions were made where you can see the top brass (Don M) vision of the market was way to corporate.  Its probably one of the main reasons he left before having to resign because his whole vision was flawed.  I would not be surprised if Phill got the position he has now because he was  vocal on the issues MS faced and giving the new Top brass a list of directions the division should go for success.

@Bolded:  From my understanding that had nothing to do with MS but was the standard clause from Mamachinima.  It was detailed that this is an agreement that machinima has made with other companies and youtube bloggers and was not something MS asked them to do.  But thats neither here or there.  As you stated, your average consumer never digs for detail so when stuff hits the fan, its only the crap that rises up not all the time the truth.

Microsoft was worse, but in their defense they learned quickly just how badly they had screwed up in the year since. Sony's mistakes haunted them for two years even if their arrogance was a bit more understandable coming off the PS2.

So, it's a wash and both should be examples for companies how not to roll out a product.

Some of those quotes from Don don't sound negative.

Both have about 2-3 quotes that could be construed as negative.

I think the most prevalent issue is being blinded by vision and ignorant of consumer desires.

Yeah I agree, but sometimes I don't get why some people think what one person says goes for what the whole think. I understand he was the "leader" of Xbox division but still if for example the Clippers owner is racist I wouldn't think the whole Clippers organiziation is racist based on the words of one person.

Don't know which one was more stupid, a good match. 360 was an amazing piece of hardware at a very competitive price. The biggest problem of One is that it came after the beautiful and 'perfect' 360. People were expecting more. PS4, on the other hand, is a far better package compared to PS3, the most powerful console at a very competitive price. It's like Sony learnt from their mistakes and improved, and MS did a step back. Not saying One is not a good console, just saying that after the marvellous 360 you MUST do something really good to live up to all the expectations. Next time MS please focus on power, simplicity, and games = caught XBox 360 caught.

He's representative of the organization. It applies to both Sony and MS, Kutaragi and Mattrick. When an employee says something that makes the company look bad they are responsible either because they believe it themseleves or they could not control the behavior of there representatives.

Nobody gets to blame it on Mattrick or Kutaragi, its not like they weren't involved in the development process, hell Kutaragi is basically the founder of PlayStation. Not to mention, that the PS3 basically followed the design philosophy of the PS2 to the letter.

Otherwise, these companies would be faceless and would not be held responsible for their actions.

Yeah I know. Like I said the words of one individual shouldn't be reflective of the whole company. That's just my opinion.

What else do you expect Yusef to say? And don't say the truth, it's a business they're working at remember.

So that was the best answer? To make up some random crap about 360 owners being more happy...?

Err im sure he could of come up with something better. He should have just left it at "PS4 sells in more regions".

Nobody likes arrogant companies. At least the jabs sony make at MS are done in trollish jokingly way. Yusuf seems pretty serious, which makes it more funny
