Forums - Microsoft - Xbox ONE $399 (Kinectless) GOLD services confirmed Lots of info inside.

The 360s keep on coming....
-Changed DRM stance
-Changed Stance on Indie Devs
-Changed position on the importance of Kinect
-Changed XBL policies to allow Apps to be used without Gold
-Added Games for Gold to give Membership incentives
-Dropped Price to match the PS4's

While I really appreciate MS's speed at changing their practices for the better, it still feels like they are in total panic mode. They have basically changed their entire position to be IDENTICAL to what Sony has laid out for the PS4 at the beginning. Xbox One has lost all sense of identity. The fact that PS4 has maintained a healthy lead over XBO after game delays, Titanfall bundling, huge lead in US last gen has Microsoft terrified.

They are hoping that complete parity with PS4 will change things in their favor, as they still have giant money coffers and TV functionality tipped at them. MS will launch their exclusive TV shows this summer on XBO which could give it some edge realistically. PS4 is still a more powerful console, the value of Plus still out strips Gold, and Sony's stable of 1st Party putting MS's to shame make many pause on whether MS can be trusted to come through ever again.

Time will tell...

I love my X1 with Kinect if you feel like you got cheated then cry me a river. Sorry but it's the truth if $100 difference wasn't a big deal when you bought the console why is it a big deal now?

But do you use the Kinect often? Most people here didn't want to use the device which is why they didn't want to pay $100 more for it.

Again if 100 wasn't a big deal when they first bought the console then why would it be now? (this is for those who already bought the console and complain about it being removed)

Will there be a "no-Kinect" Xbox One SKU?

Not going to happen. They will cut the price of xbox with kinect before getting rid of it.

Looks like most of vgc got this one...right! That was only a few months ago though, so you guys don't deserve too much credit. I mean, even Polygon had figured it out by then!

Yeah I was wrong. I thought Kinect would always be their.

Games will be the deciding factor, exclusive ones. As yet, that hasn't been enough to get any victories for MS even with net pricing that is lower than PS4 (eg : XB1 @ $449 w/Titanfall = $390 console, free kinect, $60 game).

E3 should be interesting. I have a sneaking feeling that Microsoft doesn't have any surprises ready for 2014, but 2015 could start heating up. Whereas Sony played it pretty tight last E3.

well the rest of 2014 for ms is most likly sunset, qb, halo2a, and horizion 2  and chances are well get the games coming next year at this e3

they didnt... yet.

PS3 sure did.

I'd say early ps3 owners got the goose that laid the golden egg actually.

was that golden egg the $100 price drop in less than a year?  Or the less reliable hardware?  Or lack of games available early on?  Early adopters always get screwed in one way or another.  Early adopters paid for the ps3 paid $300 more than what most people paid for their ps3's.  Heck, by the end of this year there will probably be a version of the ps4 that will come with a bigger hard drive and a game or will be cheaper or something like that.  That is obviously a better deal than the early adopters got.

The argument is it is worth the extra money to have more playing time with the new console and being able to play the new games when they come out.  However, you will always pay more for less reliable hardware and a smaller game library by buying early on as well.  So it just depends on what you value more, being able to play games in the new generation as soon as they come out (even though most the games that come out are also available on old generation hardware)  or getting a better bang for your buck.

Price drop due to removing BC. BC was the goose at the time. I sold my BC ps3 for $400 and bought a slim for $300... so yeah.

Nintendo should do the same, and make the Wii-U tablet optional in order to lower the price and save the system.

so for those day one buyers that are upset just sell the kinect on ebay there you go extra money

I think he's talking about when Sony needed to get rid of shipments in 2007 so they cut the price

And all those who defended Microsoft for including Kinect as mandatory. I wonder where then stand now...?

Same place as those who defended Sony taking out rumble only to have it brought back in?

No it isn't...  ;)

that first price drop wasn't due to removing BC.  That was a price drop on the original 60 gig model, and then they came out with the 80 gig model a little after the price drop, but it still had BC, it just didn't have some of the hardware so it relied on software emulation.  It wasn't until the 40gig model and the slim came out that they dropped the BC.

I also got rid of my 60gig model when the slim came out.  That thing cranked up the temperature in my room by like 20 degree's every time I turned that sucker on!
