Real / Serious Mario game what?

I can't think of a better "Mario" game in the history of "Mario" games than Super Mario 3D World. I and whole family enjoyed that one. I don't care about what your idea of a "serious" or "real" "Mario" game is.

3D World is isometric, not 3D. This is not a topic of quality, it's a topic of catagorization. Calm down.

But in case of mario it looks like this (the linearity is nowhere near the level of shooters but its a huge downgrade nontheless)

But that stupid time limit makes it impossible.

It isn't a downgrade. It is a different type of game. Or was Super Mario 64 a downgrade compared to Mario World because it was much slower, and we always visited the sam places.

The timer is there to force you to play, because it is a fast paced platformer.

Your idea about another playthrough seems OK though.

Yeah but then even if you are like me and try to take your time for "wow that looks nice" and "lets see whats here" "oh goombas meow how cute"  moments etc. and then you go to the end in your own pace there is still like 200 seconds left or whatever.

But then for people that dont dawdle like I do there is even more time left becaus they just need a third of the time I do to finish the level. So how does the time limit add anything to the game?  Its to short for actually enjoying the level in its entirity and to long to feel any kind of pressure whatsoever. For me its just bothersome/annoying and I actually hate it.

You know what? Super Luigi U has a good time limit for forcing people to play a fast paced platformer. 99 seconds thats it  and if you fail try again. Its hilarious in multiplayer sessions.

Thats why I would like the option to play with or without timer Or a second playthrough with time limit.

TBH making alot of things in todays games optional would make so many games better.

  • Time limits.
  • QTE's
  • stuff like "it took you 3:00 minutes instead of 2:50 to reach the levels end/checkpoint. No gold medal for you LOOSER!!! next time dont waste time looking at the beautiful vistas and details we implemented for you!"

If I want the way I do things to be rated I'd go to school. I am not playing a game to see some arbitrary rules that result in me getting a digital silver instead of gold medal... that has no meaning whatsoever. Who needs this self affirmation shit? I'd rather have a SmashBros style "wall of unlockables". that actually has some use or good old highscores that are just barely visible in some corner. Also I dont want to be sucked out of my game to see a stupid screen like that. That kills every games immersion for me. Its interupting the gameflow. In my opinion Luigi's Mansion 2 was not even half as  good as the first game because of stuff like that and the fact that it didnt feel like 1 big place to explore but like several levels... LM2 was boring I didnt even play half of that game but I completed LM1 several times last time was 1 week before LM2 came out.

Sure some people might like that kind of stuff but some dont and having the choice is always better than being forced to accept controversial features.

Grezzo's OoT3D was released since June 2011, thus 3 years ago.
I can see the real Mario 3Dbeen announced though.

You would hope so after 10 years and 2 console generations.

O_o

what the hell does that even mean?

It means that FFXIII is obviously better than FFIX simply because it came out 10 years later!

Everything that's "true in general" has exceptions. If you want to live in a pretend world where games aren't improving then that's fine. But if you play old games regularly as I do then you'd know the actual fact. Almost everything on PS2 is unplayable and clunky. (once again exceptions abound)

almost everything on PS2 is unplayable? That is a totally false statement, the majority of games since then play relatively the same just with better graphics, bigger worlds, better AI, etc. Are God of War, Resident Evil 4, Jak & Daxter, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, Kingdom Hearts, Splinter Cell, Dragon Quest, Prince of Persia, Gran Turismo, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Need for Speed, Metal Gear Solid unplayable and clunky?

No. Ultima is isometric. Sonic 3D Blast was isometric. Diablo is isometric. Mario 3D World is not. It changes camera angles, but it is 3D.
