Forums - Gaming - Underrated/Overlooked games that became overrated

Do internet games count?

Happy Wheels became EXTREMELY annoying after PewDiePie did it extensively.

Xenoblade and Final Fantasy IX are certainly games that have become overrated after being initially ignored. The of the overrated cult following after being initially ignored is Psychonauts. It was a fun game with interesting ideas, but it simply lack the polish which the best of the best games have.

The ship in Fox stage was worse. It had a killer instinct. The barrels in DK stage were... tricky. But I loved the Pokemons in Saffron City. You could beat the hell out of them. Charmander and Chansey could be sent flying if you land a strong hit. Of course, it was better if your enemy release a Pokeball and a Chansey came out, then you could just beat her and she wouldn't go away as long as you keep punching, throwing bombs, attacking with other Pokemons and stuff.

That damn Electrode did screw me over a couple of times!

That thing was almost nuclear.

FINAL FREAKIN FANTASY VI.

OK, I get that it's a lot better than VII, but I still don't see how it is the best. There are waaay too many characters, so many that the second half was a confusing mess, and the lack of a solid main character made things a little bland for me.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Binary Domain. There was a lot of talk that this game was seriously underrated and actually very good. I finally got it during some crazy sale and it was just crap. I only played around an hour of it, but by goly did I not enjoy that hour.

Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate. It is pretty overlooked outside of Japan, but I can see why. I absolutely adore the concept of the game. I love these types of games. But holy crap are the controls god awful. They are borderline unplayable, especially when you fight monsters in the water. I'm talking specifically about the 3ds version. Maybe the Wii U version plays better. I still have fun playing it with friends, but I have no idea how it got so popular in Japan. I've played for 10 hours and it still is such an awkward experience. I would play it more but the controls are so bad that I'm only willing to play it with friends.

Xenoblade, ok game but so much overrated

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Final Fantasy IX is a good shout. It sold the least out of the PS1 FF games but fans seem to praise as if its the second coming. Actually, a lot of Final Fantasy games (VI, IX, X and XII) could probably fit in this as each new iteration leads to mass criticism from old school fans, but five years later you get a whole host of people loving the game and complaining about the following iteration.

Rest assured, this will NOT happen with FF XIII.

Don't be so sure. If SE screw up FFXV even more then people might start thinking XIII wasn't so bad or maybe even good.

FF XV looks amazing so far. Even Square can learn from their mistakes and dig deep. I'm sure it will be much better than XIII (that's not saying much though!)

FF4 or FF2 SNES is their best imho. FF6 while for its time and platform SNES was fair. See I had played FF2 SNES a few months after launch and that was a "HUGE" step up from FF1 NES that it really did blow me away sound/graphics/story. FF7 was built off the hype from 6 and 6 was built off of the hype from FF2/4SNES for the US residents. Somehow this "fact" gets forgotten...

Now my problem was I had played and finsihed Lunar the Silver Star for the Sega CD. That game was like FF2 SNES in that it had story/graphics but when you get to the games redbook audio sound. As cheesy as it sounds it had an opening theme song with japanese anime, which was awesome at the time. I'd never seen anything like it. Then there were anime cutsenes with real actors and actresses, that was cool too. I bought it day 1 from Babbages but they were sold out then ran over to a toys r us and they had just a few left. Probably took me a few weeks to finish. So I then played through it again. Then I sat and read about how FF6 was gonna be mind blowing or sumthin, then I read in Nintendo Power they had like a 10-15 page exclusive on all the characters and what not. So I'm thinking wow this sounds epic they even have a colesium another tore up world later in the game 8 dragons side quest, yeah this is ambitious I thought...then I heard about an Opera scene and how it was the most amazing part of the game. OK I thought let me see this. Now Like I said before I had Lunar the Silver star on Sega CD with redbook audio. I get to the Opera scene with Celes, and I had prepared my ears for 6 months to be blown away...and what I got was blarrr blerrrr bluuuuurrrrr blahhhhh beerrrrrrr booooooeeeeerrrrr.

Ah needless to say I wasn't impressed. The hype ruined it for me. Same with 7. 8. 9....forget them.
