I've embraced digital on all consoles but Wii U. Until Nintendo ties all digital games to accounts rather than consoles, I'm not gonna bother. Nintendo needs to get with the times. Sony, Microsoft, and Steam have had this system for almost a decade.
You're Gonna Carry That Weight.
Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Since I got a canadian account, what time will it be EST?
My 1000th post: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9368779
yep, saw that in eShop as well. However, I'd think its midnight in one timezone. For NA it will likely be EST to be first or it will be PST to match Seattle. I don't think it stated the timezone nor do I think they'll roll it out for each timezone separately.
Go DIGITAL ! The Only way to play MK8 at any time without disc changes...
Nintendo servers will be stable. 100% sure about that. They've learned to manage and scale them appropriately.

It would take rougly 5 hours at that download speed and if you have 500KBps then it would be like 2 hours so if you can go and buy mario kart go home and insert game disc into Wii U under 20 hours at best then I doubt that anyone will be able digitally beat you. I expect meltdowns of MK servers... |
At ANY speed which is over 1 MBit YOU will spare time by not changing discs. But ONLY if you're not sitting in front of your TV and waiting for the download. What a luck downloads "just work" without attention
The comfort for having those "snack" games istantly available even while playing anothers big title discs can't be overstatet. Thats why I'm so happy with Wii Sports Club. And Mario Kart 8 is the same kind of drug...
Despite that I can't wait to start playing Mario Kart 8 too. I will buy the eShop version. And I'm pretty confident that Nintendo is able to handle any kind of load and fill my V-DSL pipe with those delicous bits.

You could also just leave the disc in which is what I'll be doing for a good while!
And yeah the servers should be fine, mainly because of how few Wii U owners there are!

Not really. While I was playing the disc version of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze I really learned to appriciate the Wii Sports Club digital download. I could leave in the DKCTF disk and play a quick round of Tennis too!!
Thats really a progress to the Wii - I still remember how anoying it was to swap in the Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit and Mario Kart discs...
I have to admit that I was unsure about going digital because I end up spending more money. But in the end thinking about how many times I have played Mario Kat Wii made me sure to really WANT not changing discs...
