Yea I only own a Ps4, but I'm thinking about buying an Xbox One later this year. Perhaps even a Wii U as well soon too. X looks pretty sweet.

You sir like variety.

Sony had a fantastic library on PS3.  It is not even close to being a shoe-in over the 360's though.

That may have been the case for you personally, but critically speaking (which is the only non-subjective way we can judge these types of things) the PS3 ended up a decent amount ahead of the 360 in both quantity and quality of exclusives, despite having a year less on the market.

Sure, if we include that some game used to be exclusive you could argue that the 360 and the PS3 were about equal through their lifetime. In the present day though, that's not the case.

Xbox 360: 54 PS3: 52

Thats a quick count of the number of 90+ games each console has on metacritic.

Now the last thing I want to do is get into a war about what the cut off should be, whether indies should be included, whether timed-exclusive counts etc.

The point this does very quickly and easily make though, is that any suggestion of a large quality and quantity advantage in favour of PS3 is a complete myth (especially when you consider that attachment rates for both consoles wound up between 5-8).

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

It is what it is. I would wait until after E3, maybe around Fall.

We know that Metacritic isn't a good way to rule this... and I'm not even sure what is the point in discussing which had more good or exclusive games when most people won't even get close to 60+ games in one gen... average in 10, so since there are guys like us that buy 100-200 games per console them normal folks are in the range you mentioned 5-8 so there is plenty of good games for them on gen 7 and even in gen 8... in X1 or PS4 you could buy 3 really good games and for a regular guy that is half the libary he will have.

Throw the word 'good' in before 'games' though and it becomes an entirely different debate.

And lets not kid ourselves.  Neither console has a strong library atm, and MS has the better rest-of-year line up.

PS4 has more sales because it is $100 cheaper and because Sony's early-gen PR was golden whilst Microsoft couldn't stop tripping over themselves.

I think something that a lot of people tend to ignore is how ps3 and xb360 owners felt about Sony and MS support respectively the last couple of years before the launch of ps4 and xb1. I strongly believe that one of the biggests reason psvita and wiiu were DOA was the lack of support of psp and wii by sony and ninty again the last few years before the psvita and wiiu were released. Just look at all the ps3 games released right before the launch of ps4. I know I was disappointed with my wii purchase and never really considered buying a wiiu.

And though I do agree with the bolded, you also need to keep in mind that since the general concensus at the moment is that multiplats perfmorm better on ps4 and 3rd parties sell well on both of them (unlike ninty home consoles), people who are on the fence, probably go for ps4 for better graphics/overall performance.

As for the OP. It's fine to have your own opinion and it's also fine for people to disagree with you (as long as it's expressed in a respectable manner). I, agree with the majority here mainly because as a ps3 user, I know that the games will come. If you're the kind of person who wants to rush and buy a console for its current line up and then not mind buying a ps4 too for all the games released in the future which might interest you more, go ahead. (then again, fr all we know, MS might end up making the best games ever. I'm only basing this on past experience). I can't afford both consoles, so I'll buy a ps4, as from my past experience ps1-ps3 Sony slowly but surely delivers and I see a console as a long investment.

How has MS have the better year when MLB just launched (I know your aussie so you don't care about it but it's seen above expected sales I believe. I went to buy it yesterday and had to go to multiple locations to find it), TLoU, Planetside 2, DC, and The Order on the way. I mean, its obviously subjective but still.

It is subjective, true.

But you equated the reason PS4 is selling better as having something substantial to do with games, and there is little to no evidence of that.  MLB has never had much of a role to play in shifting systems (though I will acknowledge its a very solid series of games for those into the sport).

The Order is one of my most anticipated games.  But its a new IP that wont be out for months.  Planetside and TLoU?  You really think they're what has pushed sales?  TLoU wasn't even rumoured until recently.

Titanfall was the big success it was meant to be, PvZ2 is brilliant as is Dead Rising and Forza.  Quantum Break and SO look awesome.  Though as I said, neither has a strong lineup.  Frankly I find it hard to recommend either console on its merits right now.

pvzg and dr3 brilliant? not sure ive heard anyone say that before(dead serious),,next to nothing has been shown on quantum break how can those words be mumbled,,,and if pvzg is brilliant, than warframe/thunder are aaa masterpieces...   seen the sunset vid op,looks ok,but not sure about the excitement over it yet besides looking like a crayon box exploded... with infamous just released, and games like prototype in the past(and previous other infamous games) it kind of feels like, been there done that.and even though its the least important thing, graphics wise didnt match the original trailer imo,i read somewhere yesterday that it matched it,not even close
