| BenVTrigger said: Yeah I can certainly agree with that. No doubt about it. I just think Crack in Time is one of the best platform / shooters I've ever played and so far everything they've shown from SO looks like a return to form in the best possible ways. I just think it would be silly to write off Sunset just because its an Insomniac game and they haven't been as good lately as they once were. I never got the feeling of pride / accomplishment from them when they were talking about FUSE or some of their other titles recently. They really seem high on Sunset though and seem fully committed to releasing an amazing title. |
Agreed. Deserving slack for recent performance is one thing, but it's unfair to dump those criticisms onto an unreleased game that actually looks like it may be a return to form for them (as appose to Fuse which most of us could see was going to bomb long before it was released).
On a side note, i want them to make a PS4 exclusive as well (new R&C pl0x o/) just for the amusement off it. Fanboys love to say how shit the exclusive developers of the other console are, so having a studio working exclusively on both systems would create quite the dead lock xD

| BenVTrigger said: I find it strange how everyone acts like Insomniac is this awful developer now. Have they had some misses? Yes FUSE was a truly awful game. But this is also the studio that released Crack in Time, a fantastic game. And this game looks like Insomniac finally realized what they are good at and are going all in. Personally I think it looks like the absolute best of Insomniac rolled into one title. |
Your comment was probably directed at others as well, but I did mention that I don't really trust them. That's not the same as calling them an awful developer.
The problem, the way I see it, is that Insomniac often don't seem to know which direction to take. They appear to have a leadership problem, in terms of overall vision for a project. They can focus intensely on certain areas, quite often to the detriment of others. So while some pieces of a game are really well designed, others are down right bizarrely flawed. They went in circles with Ratchet and Clank for the entire of the 7th gen. They started off with their new IP Resistance, took it in a totally new direction, then tried to settle in the middle with the final installment. When you put everything together, you start to wonder- who is calling the shots at the studio? And what is the reasoning behind some of their decisions?
They haven't been able to make a completely solid game in 5 years, and that was a continuation of an existing franchise with 6 previous releases, essentially their bread and butter. Im just skeptical about anything from them, after being hyped and excited about projects of theirs in the past, to sitting there playing them, slightly puzzled.

i've got to agree with zekkyou here. R&C all for one was terrible. R&C full frontal assult was bad. R&C into the nexus was okay. fuse was supposed to be terrible. resistance wasn't very good.
honestly R&C at it's best had a very niche audience to begin with.
i have a lot of naustalgia for insomniac,.. they've made a few real gems. but it's been 5 years since their last good game with 6 duds after it. it's been 12 years since they've made a good game not on sony's R&C ip. they've just lost my confidence in them. ...and this trailer isn't helping to change my mind either.

I agree with a lot of what you said here but I don't see how really much of any of this applies to Sunset Overdrive? It was clear as day Insomniac seemed lost on where to go with Resistance and FUSE but everything we've seen today looks as laser focused on what this game is as the CGI unveil was.
In fact the gameplay looks about as faithful to a CG trailer as I've ever seen. I think Insomniac is all hands on deck on this one and honestly I think this is the most excited to release a game I've ever seen this studio.
All you have to do is looke at the pretty much everywhere on the internet right now that flipping out about this game. Everything is pointing towards Sunset delivering and in a big way.

It's not that we're writing it off, we just aren't hyping it through the roof like it's the second coming of Jesus.
I have my reservations, most of which are justified, and I'm not about to go nuts over one single game play trailer that didn't exactly show anything mind boggling or genre defining.

being a infamous and comedy fan, i do like this type of game... the over saturated colors, do go with the theme, but are over the top for me. i loved the next gen spawn though :D
option 4 for me...

How is this any indication that the game itself is going to be good? People hype trailers for games all the time that turn out, in the end, to be mediocre. And simply put, Insomniac doesn't seem to be the developer that they once were. Once again, this is only a very short game play trailer, I'll reserve my judgement for hands on impressions at the very least.
