well, you still own the dlc but you don't own the game.  imagine for a second ps+ gave you CoD for free and then you bought a map pack dlc.  you couldn't just play your .map pack dlc after the ps+ subscription is canceled.  if you repurchased that CoD game you'd still have the dlc but you do have to rebuy the game before you can replay the dlc.

50$ dlc(PS+ required to access) vs 60 retail game("DLC included").

Tis a scam

yeah, that's a pretty bullshit clause at that price to upgrade. i'll just buy the full retail instead of upgrading if i decide i want the full game.

I don't really follow, it's $10 cheaper.

Unless you plan on not renewing your PS plus membership, but then you can't play online, even if you owned a hard copy.

For 10$ more you actually own the game, at 50$ you've only bought a temporarily license to play the game.

Any informed gamer will know that upgrading is a stupid idea when the games 60$ price tag will decline within at most of a year. The issue is newer gamers will see the discount and think its a harmless discount for the full game, something common on  PS+, but its not the full game, its a game locked behind a paywall

The game has singleplayer, its not an mmo, it doesn't need playstation+, so a 10$ for the right of ownership, that is definetly a ripoff.

Not to mention actual MMOs don't even go through PS+ like ESO, FFXIV:ARR or the ftps.

It is the full game though, at a cheaper price. As long as you have a membership, your access to it doesn't run out. They also aren't getting rid of the physical copy, so the consumer has a choice.

Personally, at $10 cheaper, I'd see no reason to go with a physical copy. I certainly wouldn't wait 6 months to 1 year in which time the PS+ version would probably come down in price too.

A full game is full access. The PS+ upgrade is not ownership, you own the license to access the game but you don't own it. My issue is not with consumer choice. MS told people they had the choice of 360 if they wanted offline play. My problem is that this is taking advantage of ignorance. For those who overlook the fine print, they will think its the full game but its not, its basically DRM.

Its hypocritical to say "oh, it doesn't matter if it you can't access it without plus, who wouldn't have it?" when this is the exact same defense of XBL for the past decade.

The issue is more complex than simply price, its a matter of principle and offering a deceptive option is worse than no option at all.

This is the same kind of reasoning that went to the defense of KI, oh its cheaper, and I don't want to play other characters anyway.

I've never given MS any slack why would I be any different with Sony?

I do not get it and see no reason why anyone, even those that try out the PS+ version, would not just buy the physical version. Odds are it will cheaper on sale not long after release and you get to own it forever. Remember how we like owning our games Sony?

They didn't think it through if they did they would have predicted many rustled gamers.

Still kinda overreact much, ain't no one that has Plus gonna stop having it. If you really want to "own" it buy the disk. At the end its consumer choice to save 10 but get stuck behind pay wall.

They are betting on consumer stupidity to strengthen Plus renewal.

If you're worried about the ignorant, who is to say there won't be a very clear level of transparency about this? I would imagine if this is the route they are taking, there will be a disclaimer that says you will need a PS+ membership to play the game, and it won't be hidden away in the fine print.

By the way, if you could keep the game without a sub, if would be cheaper to pay for a month of PS Plus, download the game, upgrade, then remove your sub after 30 days. I don't think they want word of that getting around. (Although it could actually increase memberships).

As far as a comparison with XBL, there were services that were stuck behind a paywall with no alternative. This is not the case here. This is an option for those who are going to continue to use PS Plus to get the game on discount. Otherwise, get the hard copy.
