MS told people they had the choice of 360 if they wanted offline play. My problem is that this is taking advantage of ignorance. For those who overlook the fine print, they will think its the full game but its not, its basically DRM. Its hypocritical to say "oh, it doesn't matter if it you can't access it without plus, who wouldn't have it?" when this is the exact same defense of XBL for the past decade. The issue is more complex than simply price, its a matter of principle and offering a deceptive option is worse than no option at all. This is the same kind of reasoning that went to the defense of KI, oh its cheaper, and I don't want to play other characters anyway. I've never given MS any slack why would I be any different with Sony? |
If you're worried about the ignorant, who is to say there won't be a very clear level of transparency about this? I would imagine if this is the route they are taking, there will be a disclaimer that says you will need a PS+ membership to play the game, and it won't be hidden away in the fine print.
By the way, if you could keep the game without a sub, if would be cheaper to pay for a month of PS Plus, download the game, upgrade, then remove your sub after 30 days. I don't think they want word of that getting around. (Although it could actually increase memberships).
As far as a comparison with XBL, there were services that were stuck behind a paywall with no alternative. This is not the case here. This is an option for those who are going to continue to use PS Plus to get the game on discount. Otherwise, get the hard copy.
