Forums - Nintendo - Prediction: Mario Kart 8 DLC/Expansion Pack is happening.

Spoiling every known facet of the game a month before release? A "year long" marketing campaign? Nintendo's recent dabblings in unique DLC propositions? Mario Kart being literally the perfect type of game for DLC that doesn't feel like a rip off? Guys, Mario Kart 8 is probably getting DLC. What's more, I think I know exactly what it will be.

$20. 4 new cups. 16 tracks. 8 retro vs. 8 new. 4 or 5 new characters. (Nabbit-Diddy Kong-Bowser Jr.-Dry Bones-Kirby*) They'll either spin it like New Super Luigi U where it'll just be one bulk payment for everything, or they'll spin it like Mario Golf: World Tour with each cup and one character is sold for $6-7 idividually, but you can buy a season pass to get everything for cheaper, plus a free bonus character. I think that it will be released around the holidays near when Smash for Wii U comes out, and that will not only respark the Mario Kart 8 community, but also ephasize the double whammy that is Kart/Smash.

I don't think that there will be any DLC for stuff like new Karts/bikes/atv's or parts and such, unless they do it as free DLC. Not Nintendo's style to release DLC like that.

*I know Kirby's not a Mario character. I know it's Mario Kart and not Super Smash Kart, but everybody wants him in. Maybe they'll make a special exeption. Or not.

I simply want good ol' Dry Bones! That's all!

Would be cool. Really weird that the company that makes the games best suited for DLC uses it the least. SSB would also be a great opportunity for DLC.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I hope not or else it will be that cod map pack nonsense where the people that don't have the maps take forever to find a match since usually, the people that have the maps mostly gets paired with other people that have the maps so the ones that don't, get left behind... It basically splits the user base until everyone buys it and I don't like it at all

Of course for single and local, this is not the case but one of the main draws of MK is its online play so unless its free DLC, I don't really like the idea

I get the whole, DLC = longer life of the game but I really hate when they do the whole map packs thing

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I would like that.

16 tracks for $20 seems wishful thinking. Especially since most publishers get away with selling 3 maps for $15.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I wouldn't mind a Luigi U situation where the game is essentially an expansion pack, although I'd much prefer a proper sequel instead. What I don't want are extra characters, courses, and items locked behind a paywall. It damages the integrity of the game.

thats a good point, but i want some more retrotracks^^ .

I'm starting to think they won't do it. It would split their users as people with the new maps would only be able to race those against other people who have the new maps, and when the game has such a central online experience I don't know if they're into that. And they'd have to seriously market to get a high attach rate I think. I think some of the audience may not fully understand the concept.

But they could. If it's good value I'll buy it.

I actually disagree with Super Smash Bros. DLC, lol.
