Ted started the story by telling the kids about how he met robin, not the mother.

Which makes perfect sense being that he met the mother because robin was getting married...

Then why couldnt he start at robins wedding?

Because its a sitcom. Why talk about Marshall becoming a lawyer then judge and having 3 kids? Or Lily going to SF and Barney going to get her? Or being left at the alter by that one woman?

Because all those stories involved his and robins relationship.  The ending gives all those stories meaning.  Where if it just ended with him meeting the mother at the end the whole series would have just been a silly long story for no real reason.  That is why I thought the ending was perfect as it gives more weight to every episode in the series.  They filmed that ending durring season 2, they always knew how they wanted the show to end.  Looking back at the stories that were told, you can see how it all fits together.

Seems we see it entirely different. I'm out soon, maybe I'll adress the rest later, but there is not much left to adress.

One big mistake on your part is that you think Ted would follow her, unlike Barney. Well remember when they dated? Remember the reason why they broke up? "Paris,.Tokyo, Argentina...?" Yeah Ted didn't want to follow her either.

To stay in the convention of the series I'll just say: Lawyered cheers!

Haha. Nice! I honestly forgot about that.

But I still stand by my point. He didn't follow her back then, but after she started dating Barney we don't know how his feelings changed. Techincally not a mistake as for all we know he might have followed her.

I thought it was great. Ppl who are complaining are complaining because they wanted it to be a cheesy love story that would end with a kiss and a ''and they would live happy forever''.

The story explained why this story was even being told in the first place and the fact that the mother died added weight to the story being told by Ted. It was also clear what this story was about, it was about Ted and Robin during the entire series so both of them ending together was the perfect ending.

The moral of the story is that no story is all white or black. You never know what will happen and you will no matter what you do have to eventually face obstacles. Happyness will never be served to you on a silver platter, it is up to you to find and creat your own happyness, and this is exactly what happened for all characters.

^^^ nothing to do with a happily ever after ending. More to do with Robin and Ted just being a shit story line and incredibly boring by the end. It completely made the mother a rebound since he always loved Robin. And the daughter at the start of the very first episode was a tool if the mother was dead.

The moral of the story is that if a relationship never works just keep at it even if you know the two of you just don't work.

Although for me the show ended at the train station where we find out the mothers name. Perfect ending. I'll watch the alternate ending when it comes out and if I prefer that, that is the new ending.

First 10 seconds of that. The two kids are actually disrepectful but I had only remembered the daughters reaction yesterday.

They basically plagiarized David Copperfield, but i though it was ok

Thanks for this.

I don't necessarily find it disrespectful. Think of it this way. 1) Their mother died six (?) years before he started telling them the story? It wasn't the next week or anything. 2) He had a thing for telling stories. Even his wife seemed to have had heard them all. For all we know, all he does is tell them stories and they are sick and tired of them. Plus, in other stories he told them, he probably took forever to get to the main point and they may have other plans for the night (they are teenagers after all, so hearing stories from parents is not that cool). Sure, it's about their mother, but he probably told them a thousand stories about her, just not how he met her. Also, take into account how many weird things he said over the "how I met your mother story". For all we know, the rest of his stories were also a bit "too much information, dad", because of the drugs, sex etc.

Yeah. 1) if you lost someone who was your whole world which a parent is too a kid it will always hurt to think of it. You would never have a reaction like that anyway. 2) If they had asked how long the story would be or to get to the point or even that they heard enough stories already I would agree with you. But to think hearing about your dead mother is punishment? That just doesn't fit with any of the rest of the show. Bar the shit ending.

Well maybe that's how you feel, but I've met quite a few people who lost their parents and they even joke about it quite often. Sure it might hurt, but after some years it hurts less and even if it always hurts deep inside, people don't always show it. Again about your second point, for all we know telling stories about their mother is probably all he did for years. They've heard them "all" and there is only so many times you can tell your dad "can you get to the point?", only for him to say "sure", and then go on and on about their aunt Lily and how she couldn't keep a secret.

As for the "If they had asked how long the story would be", from the video you showed me, his daughter asks "is this gonna take a while?". Their reaction has nothing to do with their mom and all about how their dad takes forever to tell a story. As teenagers, that's probably the last thing they wanna do, especially if he does it all the time. I know that when I was a teenager, I didn't care much about stories about my grandfather (not saying it's the same), but now I wanna know more. Of course, if my dad keeps telling the same stories and every story takes a few hours of my day, I'll still probably pass. His son even asks "are we being punished?", suggesting that it has become something they dread.
