^^^ nothing to do with a happily ever after ending. More to do with Robin and Ted just being a shit story line and incredibly boring by the end. It completely made the mother a rebound since he always loved Robin. And the daughter at the start of the very first episode was a tool if the mother was dead.

The moral of the story is that if a relationship never works just keep at it even if you know the two of you just don't work.

Although for me the show ended at the train station where we find out the mothers name. Perfect ending. I'll watch the alternate ending when it comes out and if I prefer that, that is the new ending.

Do you remember what she says? I have no idea, but would like to know.

First 10 seconds of that. The two kids are actually disrepectful but I had only remembered the daughters reaction yesterday.

Thanks for this.

I don't necessarily find it disrespectful. Think of it this way. 1) Their mother died six (?) years before he started telling them the story? It wasn't the next week or anything. 2) He had a thing for telling stories. Even his wife seemed to have had heard them all. For all we know, all he does is tell them stories and they are sick and tired of them. Plus, in other stories he told them, he probably took forever to get to the main point and they may have other plans for the night (they are teenagers after all, so hearing stories from parents is not that cool). Sure, it's about their mother, but he probably told them a thousand stories about her, just not how he met her. Also, take into account how many weird things he said over the "how I met your mother story". For all we know, the rest of his stories were also a bit "too much information, dad", because of the drugs, sex etc.

Yeah. 1) if you lost someone who was your whole world which a parent is too a kid it will always hurt to think of it. You would never have a reaction like that anyway. 2) If they had asked how long the story would be or to get to the point or even that they heard enough stories already I would agree with you. But to think hearing about your dead mother is punishment? That just doesn't fit with any of the rest of the show. Bar the shit ending.
