Agreed 100% on Forza 5, but what were the downgrades in Ryse and DR3? (I see people mention them quite often). Both could certainly have done with some small downgrades to keep the frame rate above 30, but other than the change to the method used to create the Ryse's characters i can't think of any noticeable changes compared to the final product. Can't say much about DR3 though. The gameplay I've seen doesn't appear any different from the footage i remember seeing at E3, but i haven't taken much of an interest in it so i could be totally wrong on that. It's interesting you bring up that the Forza 5 stuff was playable by the way. I'd be curious to know which people think is worse, a completely BS trailer (Killzone's E3 2005 one), or a smaller visual lie that's being advertised as real playable gameplay. (On a side note, we should start wrapping these conversations off. I just realized what thread this is and we are going very off topic >.<) |
If I remember correctly, Dead Rising and Ryse had much better framerates at E3. I think there was some smaller visual downgrades to DR3, but nothing major (might be wrong on this one). Ryse also got a significant downgrade in poly count. And not sure if the E3 demo of Ryse had poly clipping, case the retail did it occasionally. And I'm quite certain the E3 demos for all 3 were actually at 1080p.
I agree with DonFerrari on this one. What Sony had was a target render vid. One that was shown over a year before the PS3 launched. The worst offender in the Sony vid was Motorstorm, while Killzone 2 did come quite close in the final product. And Resistance actually did use in game footage, so big ups for that.
However, when it was time for the press and gamers to get their hands on the actual games in the form of previews and demos, Sony didn't commit false advertising by creating fake previews/demos running on better HW than the PS3, and then kept promoting those demos until a month or so before launch. They had the real games, on the real HW. This is why it astounds me that MS got away with it (minus their poor sales). But, in gaming journalism, I guess money talks.
