I never played ET so I can't give my opinion...

It's not as bad as people say (specially by the standards in Atari games), but was pretty terrible anyway. The biggest gripe is that the collision that determines if you will fall in a hole is messed up (if a single pixel on your character touches a single pixel in a hole, you fall, even if it's the top of your head). Game is boring, graphics are lame even for Atari and the sound is a pain.

But I've already played worse stuff. Dark Castle on Genesis was definitively worse than ET. Superman 64 was worse too. When you understand how the ET bugs work, it's almost playable. The other two are beyond human understanding.

It'll be popular becauase liking indy games is a new thing now. Like hating iPhones/Android, hating Call of Duty, and hating any musician who wins a Grammy.

I feel that some indie games are getting a free pass to good review score. Of course, we can say the same for the most hyped AAA games. With PS+ I started trying more indie titles and in the end things are similar to AAA games: few are really great, some are good, some are bad. I really enjoyed Guacamelee and Hotline Miami. Sine mora and Lone Survivor were decent while Thomas Was Alone simply looked a completely overrated and pretentious game (that pales compared to Ibb and Obb). These kind of games have less content, but usually are way cheaper so things pay off. I'm currently very satisfied with getting 1 or 2 AAA games and some indies on PS3/PSV.

PS4 lack of AAA is probably normal for a launch console. I got my Vita close to launch and things simply sucked. Less than a year latter and I already had more interesting titles avaiable that I could buy. PS4 was hurt by delays on Driveclub and Batman too. Anyway, it will probably take until Q3-Q4 2015 to have a good library avaiable, but that's what buying consoles at launch usually do: you get it first, but you will suffer with the early issues. That's probably why launch titles always have high sales and its sequels usually fall hard (Motorstorm, Resistance) when they have to deal with increased competition.

It's not even indy titles I'm upset with though. It's that they're all so similar and lacking. Strider is the best side scroller I've played so far and Dead Nation is the most fun indy to date. Child of Light is hyped but I played it last night and don't see the appeal. I mean, indys don't have to be 2D, side scrollers, or shallow. But that seems to be what we've been inundated with.

i like thomas was alone but i'll admit around 90% of my enjoyment came from the story/voice over.   the gameplay was really bland on it's own.  it was the storyline that was so charming.

i like ibb and obb a lot too but the co-op dependance meant i never finish the game because the guy i was playing with stopped playing.  :(

Bolded = a summation of everything on the 2600. Nostalgia keeps it alive but nothing on it holds up. Superman 64 is probably the true worst game ever made.

Yeah.....I'm gonna go ahead and dismiss everything you said.

That SF looks amazing. And that lifeguard game? Id play it. Go look into the jenna jameson game if you want to make a point

Well if it is in the same level than Superman 64 and it was terrible... this game really really bad.

Strider and Child of Light aren't indie games. The first is from Capcom and the second from Ubisoft. But a lot of indies are 2D and lack imagination. For PS4, you should try Contrast (not only because it's 3D and uses Unreal, but is pretty clever actually).

Yes, just like that, the voice over is amazing and the personality they give to each square is great. But the fact that they are squares and the overal gameplay are boring.

Ibb and Obb is really that kind of game that despite being playable alone, it simply doesn't works well. But even on coop, I have my gripes with it. The level design and challenges are good, smart and balanced on the begining, but after some hours the game starts just throwing situations of high precision coordinate jump and the game starts becoming frustrating. But the art style is superb and the game is good overall.

Some Atari games had interesting gameplays. Yar's Revenge is imaginative and complex, but games like that were a small portion. Usually gameplay is a thing that won't age well.

Certainly adds to the library but for some reason i would rather play indie games on my Vita than any home console
