I prefer Directs. A conference is like a buffet. A Direct is more like an hors d'oeuvre.

I agree with your sentiment, but I think the solution is not good, in the end. Nintendo has been poopooed by the press, that's a certainty, as has Microsoft. As an xbox fan that's something you should be able to relate to. The only company that tends to get carte blanche on most things is Sony. With that knowledge, asking for Nintendo to place their coverage in the hands of the press is suicide, as usual. The press is more than ready to butcher the scapegoat (in this case Nintendo). So as much as I agree that hiding from the press is in general a bad thing because it limits exposure, I think in Nintendo's case it's a necessary sacrifice. In the end, they'll have to shine through by their games. And luckily Nintendo is more than able to do that. Whether they do it or not is a different story. |
I disagree, MS are called out on their fuck ups but get praise and coverage when it's due. Dead Rising was everywhere for instance.

However, as a consumer I prefer the Directs because I get all the information first hand without any middlemen interpreting things into it or omitting important details. Equally important, since they started with the Directs, the frequency of new information has increased. |
