Forums - Gaming - Will a 3rd party shooter secure X1s 2nd place, notion of PS4 is FPS land.

Destiny being that shooter.

When PS4 version badly out sales the X1 version it will be Xbox losing its big FPS dominance that it heavly relied on last gen.  Now Europe is a sure thing but if it out sales the X1 version lets say 2-1 in NA will it seal X1s place as a secondery console.  FPS being the big driving force of 360 NA sales.

For ex 360 Cods only out sold PS3 by a 2/3 million world wide,  the biggest factor was NA where 360 would near double the PS version, with the last Ghosts world wide the difference fell 8.5m for 360m 7.8 PS3, but NA being 5.6 to 3.25m in Xbox favor.

Then the PS4 happend.

BF4 1.73 to X1s 1.28, with NA being 0.82 to 0.85
COD G 2.11 to X1 1.69 with NA 1.14 to 1.20

PS4 has taken over world wide FPS sales lead from the Xbox and is near tie in NA.  The ratios are only getting worse as PS4 sales lead increases heavly world wide and in NA though far more slowly.  PS4 has managed to eliminate Xbox strong hold on fps, the biggest gaming disadvantage beween PS had to xbox last gen.

I see Xbox shooter dominance is coming to an end, and so is any chance X1 ever had at sniffing first place.  They are losing on every front, and the last nail in the coffin is they are losing fps gaming.  Destiny will sales will be a blunt show of this, xbox fps land is over.  Their stronghold of NA is no more.

A game has to be CoD big AND PS4 have a large sales lead to really create the impression that PS4 is now the home for FPS.

Personally I don't see PS4 having that bog of a sales lead for Destiny, not in NA at least. I think Destiny will have a much higher tie ratio on Xb one than PS4, and this will probably cement in the minds of publishers that Xb one is still a go to console for FPS.

Why do you think that? PS4 version is getting exclusive DLC and probably a bundle, not to mention the fact that PS4 is ahead in the US which is FPS land.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Starting with this... Well, currently Destiny looks underwhelming. Graphics don't blow anyone away, the "few-hours level max", the hands-on from Kotaku which told us game was boring...

I still have hopes for the game but at the current state it doesn't seem to be exceptional in *any* way.

Id almost argree if the mediocrity of BF4 and Ghosts did not sale good, but they did no matter how mediocre the single player and how bad the multi.  They even looked pretty mediore and still sold.  Also looking back Halo was never a graphics leader, it was juist a damn sold shooter and its strengths sure seemed to work with the fps audience.

This game might not be all that.   But it will get a massive push and marketing that will makes it huge.

Well, Halo 4 was very, very good on 360, in my opinion. Not much came close to it.

I think we should think about what really makes fps games successful...

Modern FPS? Multiplayer. I see this nothing more than Borderlands just with more promotion, online only will hurt it. It'll sell well, more than Borderlands because of the promotion and the hype.

Xbox's shooter image won't change though.

Hmm, pie.

At least they were. We don't know what's going to happen with Destiny. But at least they managed to be the ones who made the most successful fps besides COD. Nothing comes close to Halo with sales if you only look at exclusives.

I think with Destiny the game starts from 0 - it can be bad, mediocre or great. Let's hope it'll be great!

The only thing ps4 will be getting is beta before than xbox one, their was an ad near infamous launch which clearly said ps4 will get the beta first no dlc.
