So, Nintendo's strategy to win E3 is to not even show up. Brilliant! Maybe this is a strategy Chicago Cubs will employ to win this year's World Series!

Not having a live conference /= not showing up.

Thier booth was the same size as Sony's last year, and its even bigger this year.

Of course they'll show up. In the audience to see what real companies have to present while their children play in a booth with Pikachu and Kirby.

Even if they don't win E3, they'll surely be a hit in Disneyland.

One thing is for sure, is that I'll be following that Smash tournament as closely as I'm currently following the hockey playoffs (Go Habs Go!). I hope one of the participant will be using Pikachu to clearly give me someone to cheer for.

The irony here is you can't attend E3 if under the age of 17.

I'm rewatching the 2013 E3 direct right now to see if it was a good as I remembered.

So far the first three things they did were show

1. Pokemon X & Y

2. Super Mario 3D World

3. Mario Kart 8

So far so awesome, not bogged down by numbers or anything boring either.  Plus I know X is shown at some point too.  How were they bashed so much?

Presentation format >>> actual content!

I thought the presentation was great.  Its just the press didn't, cause they saw it the same as us.  Like I said before, being at a live concert is not the same as watching one online.

99% of the gaming world is ALWAYS watching online, so Directs are just as great to us.  in both cases we are sitting on the couch or on a desk chair watching a tv/monitor.  Meanwhile the select few press hates the directs cause they don't get their pampered special presentation live concert and free goodies.  Thus they say it sucks or don't talk about it, or if they do it has less enthusiasm as the other events.

Now seeing as they are the ones posting the articles online and the gaming websites.  It thus puts Nintendo in the background and you ignore someone enough, the rest of the populace will too.  If every page has Watchdogs plastered everywhere, its all people will talk about.

So no its not presentation>>>content.   It's sucking up to the press>>>>everything.

The other events are the same as directs, just they have random cheering press at times.  It's still just a guy talking and then trailers.  At least Nintendo kept out hte boring figures and stats and just talked about the games.  it was like non-stop trailers with Iwata just announcing a game or revealing a detail to it.

I'm tempted to go to Best Buy for the demo, but I feel bad that someone died to make it happen. I don't know if I can go in good conscience. :/

What? Who died for this!? o_O

Just a woman, so it's really no biggie.

Kim Possible's a woman, though. Is she important?

It's not ironic, it's just sad. Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, it's about grown ups playing this?

Are we really going to bring up the "anything kiddie isn't real gaming" debate?

Come on, be better than this.

I explained how in the OP! I've never gone to E3 and probably never will, only could watch other people playing hot new games and having a good time, but now Nintendo is finally letting me get a taste of that action! And it's not just that we'll be able to play Smash Bros., but also because it's an event! Meeting and playing with new peoples, all the cheers and excitement, the free swag, it's just a great time that can't be replicated whike sitting at a computer desk! ^_^

So Sony could show us dozens of games that appeal to you but that'd still "lose" E3? It's definitely something really cool Nintendo is doing with Smash but I still don't see how you can say they won already. Of course it's all opinion, but I believe you need to take all sides into account before you form one. That's all I'm saying, if you still feel that way after E3, kudos to Nintendo.

Pretty much! This format is good for gamers who actually care about games!
