that could be true but that doesnt explain why PS4 and One did SO much better than WIi U in comparison and they were a year late to the next gen party. Shouldnt people have been clamoring for a new Wii sysyem?

The PS4 and XBO are very different systems, with very different audiences. Nintendo primarily appeals to a niche; a great, big niche, but a niche still. The other systems, though, appeal to a more mainstream gaming market.

The Wii was something of an anomaly, appealing to the same Niche as previous systems, but also striking into a new created mainstream, non-traditional gaming market. The problem is, Nintendo got outpaced and ultimately left behind in that market because the dynamic is very different from the gaming market

I did. After E3 2011 I felt a feeling of 'what the fuck?' I felt like Nintendo was going backwards from the Wii. And so, the market performance has also gone backwards from the Wii.

After the putrid performance of the GCN, Iwata, Miyamoto, all agreed that controllers had become to cumbersome and complex and were alienating every one besides dedicated gamers. The Wii was the response. So after the thing breaks records, they decide to make a console with a controller more complex than GCN? That makes sense? They even decided to create sequels and remakes of Gamecube games! Why would any one be surprised at Wii U's abysmal performance?

I just hope Nintendo learns the lessons it needs to in order to create a successful home console next gen. Because this gen is a wrap for them.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

If you recall a lot of people didn't think Wii would be competitive in the last gen. I count myself among those who didn't see how an SD console could be even as competitive as it's predecessor GC was. I still don't think Wii was a good console, but it still sold like hotcakes.

So to be honest I thought I could not predict well how Wii U would do, but the slow 3DS sales and rise of tablets made me think it wouldn't be another Wii.

In a way it may be bad that Wii U released first. Wii U still had competition from PS3/360 when it launched, and didn't compare well on price and game libraries.

By comparison when Wii released, PS2/Xbox were already pretty much out of mind for me. It was clear Wii games didn't look like the HD twins, but nobody was saying PS2/Xbox was better to own, and Nintendo successfully diverted attention from graphics, even making Mii characters look like preschooler art, as there was a new way to play.

My 8th gen collection

I expected around 60 million lifetime, so no.

To be honest... i didnt. My opinion changed when i saw the atitude 3rd parties were having towards it and how they undermined the Wii U in terms of new engines.
At that point, it was obvious they werent gonna let it do well regardless. The system of PS+Xbox is just too profitable to let go after last gen. The only thing that can replace it is a return to PS domination like the PS2 did.

i got to disagree. Its not like 3rd party were throwing new engines on WIi either, but that system still managed to do well. Wii U got great 3rd party support at the very beginning, and look at the sales. No wonder they shunned it.

You mean shovelware support. The obvious difference is that the Wii was a casual system and the Wii u isnt.

As for support at the beggining, it didnt last 2 months. In february Ubi was already delaying Rayman and porting it. The only support to talk about was zombieU.

After seeing the zombieu demo, I thought it would sell great, even bought it day one myself

I'll be honest and say I did.... but at the same time I did also expect the original Wii to be a failure even tho I got one at launch day, just always worry about Nintendo Hardware because they sometimes have issues with branding, stuck between trying to remind people that it's a product they know and love but it's also a brand new piece of hardware.

Heck the DS family line suffers so badly from this I really pity parents being sent into game stores to buy games because they're completely at the mercy of the sales reps to be honest with them, whoever thought the line of systems should go DS>DSi>3DS>2DS should be shot, From DS to 3DS would make sense only if those 2 systems were the only 2 on the line, but they're not, when you throw in a 2DS to it... what is that to unknowing parents? A 3ds without the 3D? that's just a DS then surely? Like I said, naming group needs a proper slap.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive
