You know the phrase "a sucker is born every second"

If anything, this thread has proved it. The fact that people buy into such an obvious marketing ploy as "Full HD" is sad, especially when you see "I thought only bluray could do 1080p", or just about everything MikeB has posted.

Speaking of which, its hysterical that he brings up Mass Effect and its problems with texture streaming, yet ignores how Uncharted has the exact same problem.

What problems does Uncharted have with texture streaming? 0_o

It has texture and model pop-in, just like Mass Effect. Of course its nowhere nearly as bad as ME, but Mikeb once insinuated that the text pop-in was hardware specific to the 360.

An exact quote would be more helpfull than putting words into my mouth. A default harddrive (as cache or for installing data) and constant (predictable) streaming speeds however helps in this regard, it's an advantage the PS3 has over the 360 from a technical perspective. I haven't noticed anything wrong in this regard with Uncharted though, but I'm sure Naughty Dog can fine tune further for Uncharted 2.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

 Ah, okay.

I was about to say, I don't really remember seeing any texture popping in Uncharted, except maybe once or twice.

And to put things into perspective, Mass Effect texture pop-ins:

And compare with Uncharted which need no harddrive install, nor in-game loading times for the user to wait for:

IMO very impressive (fast, good looking and smooth)! Great results for Naughty Dog's first effort on the PS3!

So I guess more games run at 1080p on the 360 than on the PS3. Am I right?

"1080p still looks better with 4xAA over 2xAA. Any PC gamer knows that."

Yeah but 1080p 2AA looks better than 720p 4AA so it is no sacrifice

Exactly since 720p 4AA is trying to simulate 1080p 2AA image with less pixels. Thus 1080p with no AA is better than 720p 2AA since you are not trying to fluzzy up the lines with 1080p. Still AA does help 1080p as well.

Also this article I found on GT5p is misleading

http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-76181.aspx

Both 1280X1080 and 1440X 1080p are 1080p. In fact 1440 x 1080 is 4:3 format. This is why there is confusion when it comes to HD. A game and movies can run on 1080p but that doesn't mean they are in 16:9 format. The Wii can run games on both 16:9 and 4:3 on 480p.

The Blu-Ray Spider-man 3 runs in 1080p yet in a 2.4:1 (or 12:5) format. Which means this movies will have a nice black bar on the top and bottom of the screen.(thus not really 1080p after all unless you included the blackness which is the same with widescreen DVD on a SD TV)

I think we've learner that games run at all kinds of different resolutions but the PS3 Upconverts to 720p mostly, some are native to this resolution also . the 360 upconverts to what ever your tv will handle but if you have a 360 with hdmi and a tv with 1080p support all your games will upconvert to this resolution wether or not thats thiers native resolution really doesnt matter!

games look better at 1080p! PS3 games run at what ever resolution the game decides you cant ake it upconvert to 1080p if its 720p.

The games that are 1080p native so far are:

- Vitual Tennis 3 (PS3, Xbox 360)

- Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

1080p allows for more details, this becomes relevant with larger HDTV sets (note upscaling does not add details).

Relative pixel size difference with same resolution on a larger TV:

With regard to optimal viewing distance:

Screen and content resolution on HDTVs due to larger sizes are far more relevant than with regard to running PC games at high resolutions on small monitors (the average monitor in use I believe is ~17 inch).

lol why would you sit 11 feet away from a 37 inch tv?
