I mostly agree, both games will have mass appeal. Nintendo are probably gonna see out how well Mario Kart 8 does for Wii U before dropping Super Smash Bros (I think it will be out in October at some point). They will wanna space them out to maximise sales, these only come once a generation.

Either way, can't wait for both

I'd agree that the combo of games will push a lot of Wii U hardware out the door.

However, MK series hits a broader range of audience and will not only sell more individual copies than SSB will combined on 3DS and WiiU, but it will definitely sell more consoles when you take out the holiday effect SSB will launch within.

If they bundle those games day 1 with a price cut, it may have some impact. Otherwise, it'll help a little... I've heard too many times before that a Wii U game would get the wheel turning  and... Nothing.

Nintendo fans will take them both home. Third party rules. The only way Nintendo can turn this gen around without third party is by gathering non-gamers again and thats obviously not happening. This is why you always do business with third party.

Neither game will do anything unless they're marketed and advertised like mad. So far, I've seen zero ads on the TV for Mario Kart. In fact, the only Nintendo advertising I've seen recently on TV is for the 2DS.

McDonalds are giving out Mario figurines in Kids Happy Meals, but not a Wii U or MK8 logo to be seen...

But I'm in the UK of course, where nobody's heard of Wii U. I'm hoping MK8 is becoming more visible around the rest of the world?

Well there's still just under 2 months to go before release, so a case could be made that it's too early, however I've already seen Watchdogs advertisements here on this very site.
