The Xbox One will revitalize the console market in Japan.

I'll be honest, I think Nintendo could well do very well in Japan this generation. I'd like to see a launch aligned comparison between the PS4 and Wii U

Simple: Final Fantasy

Remember, FF was the genre defining, bar raising game that every other japanese rpg makers weee trying in some way to keep up with it. 13 releases and does nothing to define or raise the bar. Jrpg's are in a era where no standards have been set thus quality is all over the place.

Does it have be ff? Not really, but because of its global popularity its the best choice

Things that will help:

-an interesting new idea for a game. Wii Sports did great.
-RPG's with engaging gameplay. FF just isn't cutting it these days.
-Something that can't be easily reproduced on mobile.
-Get them hooked on COD.

As of this week:

PS4: 506,739

Wii U: 747, 125

PS4 also tracking slower than Vita, but faster than PS3.

I don't see much of a problem. A huge chunk of the Japanese market is based on mobile or hand-held gaming, which fits well with the lifestyle or circumstances of many Japanese people. That's just the way it is. Even then, they still buy a lot of home consoles, relatively speaking.

I always think that is a weak argument.

The Gameboy/advance was always there and was a sucess, but it didnt stop home consoles from beeing a sucess aswell. Its not their way of life that changed and they suddenly just want portables. Its that they were the center of development for games and with the last gen they stopped beeing.

The system that they feel no attachment to, the xbox 360 ushered in a new era of games, albeit rushed, but caught sony off guard. Sony was late and was arrogant from 2 gen victories and released their system at an unthinkable price for the Japanese. This left them with no choice than to go to portables where their japanese games migrated to.

Nowadays still, home console development is headed by the western developers, the ones they used to call trash. Trash is now quality and what they do is now viewed mostly as trash. Its no wonder they just evade the humiliation and choose to ignore the console market. All this theory about it beeing their life style is all circunstancial if you ask me.

I do agree with him regarding the Japanese life style thing. Its bullshit. Japanese gamers are leaving consoles because Japanese developers are no longer creating games that interest them. Mobile has those games now.

A Wii U firmware update that let's you play with the Gamepad as if it were a portable the same way the Vita's remote play works in conjunction with a game that has the handheld experience while benefitting from the graphical fidelity that the Wii U offers.

buy a PS4/Xb1/Wii U and get a hot busty Asian girl dressed up in either a maid/swim suit/ or school girl uniform

Great games, most japanese devs have quite frankly not made many great games the last 5 + years, they seemed to jump to mobile or struggled in the HD era. It's not dead though, ps4 will still sell well enough at the end of the gen, just not what it used to be.,
