Whilst it's true that FF15 and MGS 5 are bothe on xbone, it doesn't negate the fact that there's no brand recognition between the Xbox brand and eith MGS or FF, when you talk about Final Fantasy, what console brand do you think of straight away? Sony, as all the big selling FF's have been on sony consoles (out of the top 10 selling FF's there's only FF3 that's not on a sony platform), or maybe Nintendo if you're an gamer who grew up with the NES and SNES, but even still there's far stronger ties to Sony, and it shows as each FF this gen that has been available on both platforms the sony version has sold more than double of what the xbox version did. It's going to be even more extreme this gen as Sony will do better in Japan, and won't be being dominated in FF's second strongest region (americas). MGS has been on nothing but sony consoles (for titles that have sold anything of note). Oh and both games will be vastly superior on the PS4 compared to the Xbone
Yet most of the Halo and Gears crowd will already be adopting the Xbone due to Titanfall, and you're forgetting the most important factors that will mean at worst for Sony they will be tied in the US (which counts as a win for them) due to cheaper, more games, better versions of multiplats and the fact that Playstation is a stronger brand.
Why will I take MS seriously after e3? They always talk shit about the 'new ips' that they'll be bringing and their various other 'exclusives'. At the end of the day we know a lot more of MS's hand than we do of Sony's, as we still have up to 7 new games being developed that we know nothing about, that have also been in development for a long while (2 from SCE Japan [they're a 4 dev team studio, we've just got Knack and Puppeteer, 2 studios left], Santa Monica have something brewing, Bend have been working on a ps4 title since UC:GA came out in 2011, SCE London have an title being developed, the second team of Guerilla and finally whatever Media Molecule are doing, let alone the second part support, or the fact we still need to get a propper Uncharted trailer).
I don't see anyway back for the Xbone, it's dead in the water in Japan, so that's instantly 10m advantage to the ps4, ontop of what it has, when you start getting those sort of advantages, more and more 3rd parties start developing on your platform, meaning your platform has better multiplats, they also just start making all their games exclusively for your console. Then take into the fact XBOX is being crushed in ROW and Europe (-UK), whilst it currently isn't performing better in it strong markets the gap is going to start growing quickly when Sony can start upping production. I think the gap by the end of the year will be minumum 6 million, and that is being kind to the Xbox, I would not be suprised to see that number somewhere between 8 and 9 million.
