Forums - Nintendo - Zelda fans, would you like Zelda on Wii U to advance the combat system??

While  a lot of the combat in Zelda titles is very basic it keeps itself engaging as it is somewhat of a puzzle.

However for simple enemies it almost becomes a press B to win situation or in Skyward Swords case

Yeah xD

Anyway so what I wanted to know was if you thought advancing the combat system is a good idea.

A game that comes to mind is a popular series from the 7th generation, Dark Souls.

That games combat rellies on the 4 shoulder buttons for Guard, Parry, Light Attack and Strong Attack.

I feel like something simlar would be awesome to see in a Zelda game as it would bring the combat beyond the one button combo it has often been. It would make combat much more interesting and in my opinion combat outside of boss battles has always been Zelda's weakness.

Oh but dont make the game as hard as the Souls series =P I like being able to finish a game

And as crazy as it sounds I still want to do this (starts at liike 0:16)

So Like DMC, Ninja Gaiden and Beyonatta? Or like God of War? Just not like Skyward Sword please, My hands can't take it!

Also Lolll PBG, Love his channel

I'm not completely sure, I kinda like the combat, Skyward Sword tried to diversify it through motion and it didn't work out, so I don't mind keeping it confined to the b-button. What I would like, though, is if Nintendo diversified the side-items to make them more useful in combat. The bow and sword are all that are used and almost every enemy can be beaten with them, why not diversify the enemies and make items like the fire rod or ice rod being the only items being able to kill them. I think that would be an excellent step in the right direction for 3D Zelda games.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Zelda should do more with the combat instead of puzzles, but Nintendo seems determined to keep the games fairly simple.

Even if they don't they will make it look magnificent so no one will care.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

I think they should advance skyward sword. And get rid of motion for everything except combat.

If they use the soul's series combat you need to have the difficulty. Otherwise it's not really that different from general zelda other than controlling better.
(Which isn't really that hard, and the actual combat is completely fair)
Which I would like, but i seriously doubt it would happen.

w/o difficulty there's absolutely no reason to parry, backstab or block carefully. Other than to say you can.

So the combat system would be the same as like twilight princess imo.

The key is looking at past Zelda titles. Part of the problem with the newer Zelda games is the items. In older Zelda games the items where useful not to traverse a puzzle in the dungeon but to make combat better. The boomerang in the first Zelda game was used to stop enemies on their tracks and it was really useful. On newer zelda games it's almost useless and is mostly used to complete a puzzle inside a dungeon.

Some items are used with the only purpose of doing a dungeon and serve no other purpose in the newer Zelda games. In my opinion, that has to go away.

Also combat should be a lot more difficult, I am not talking about Dark Souls level of challenge but a decent one like the original Zelda game. Each enemy should have different ways to be slain and there should be more enemies per room rather than adding more puzzles.

Yeah but I have a feeling this game will use the gamepad so unless they want to remove camera controls and make the attack button the right stick I just cant see that happening

I like your way of thhinking =D

Yeah the older games deinitely used items a lot more. Now they are kind of just used for puzzles mainly in the dungeon you find the item.

Yeah, I'd like a more advanced combat system in the next Zelda with more than one or two attacks. They kinda did that in Twilight Princess you know. Would be cool if you could unlock attacks by rescuing certain individuals in the game; a guard, a grand swordmaster, Impa...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I think Skyward Sword was on the right track as far as the challenge goes in combat. It required more thinking than the usual button-press and made each enemy a little more unique. They should build further upon these aspects, iron out some flaws and adapt it, control-scheme-wise, to the Gamepad. I think an analogue way to control the sword is better and more intuitive than buttons. Ideally, I hope the game will prompt the player to either use Wiimote/Nunchuck motion control like Skyward Sword, or use the Gamepad where the second stick controls the motions of the sword.
