Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 appears to have only 4.5GB available for games use

Infamous tech talk http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/04/02/how-infamous-second-son-used-the-ps4s-8-4-5-gb-of-ram-cpu-and-gpu-compute-to-make-our-jaws-drop/

This follows in the footsteps of The Order 1886 and Killzone Shadowfall, both of which developers revealed to use 4.5GB RAM. Those are the only games we have gotten RAM usage figures for, so all the PS4 games we know of use 4.5GB. It's likely that is the cap currently.

Xbox One has 5GB available for games.

Why? There are already games in 1080p. That aggressive reaction, though...

There is no DDR5. And still no.

I recall developers saying when PS4 was announced with 8GB, that they were shocked because they were working with a lot less. Overtime, more RAM will be freed up and if they can't use 4.5GB to produce a great game, when last gen then had 512mb, they aren't a very good developer.

Eitherway.... so? Are you not enjoying the games produced?

Hmm, pie.

I have no problem with attacking an attack thread. But his retaliation was just weak and untrue. No better than an IGN commenter.

Like many said nothing surprising here. MS and Sony played safe in the first place and obviously the amount of ram is currently no problem for devs. As the gen moves on, expect to see improvements on both sides.
