It would probably be out right now if they weren't developing both versions at the same time.

Probably. Their biggest potential Wii U system seller is now going to have most of it's system selling potential leeched away by the 3DS version.

Just like mario kart was leeched by the portable installments, oh wait.

Did Mario Kart ever release simultaneously on two platforms? Correct me if I'm wrong please. I could have sworn that Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7 were exclusives to mobile.

Nintendo also mentioned that the SSB 3DS and Wii U versions wouldn't be identical either, so its not like they're releasing the same game on 2 platforms.

As for the OT I don't think they are, it gives them opportunity to sell more. Some diehard fans with both consoles may double dip as well.

+System seller for WiiU (?)

I am buying both so for this fan that works. And if it works for me it will work for a lot of others and at the end of the day that equals sells.

Nope, as the game might actually be able to outsell Brawl this way!

No, the WiiU needs as much help as it can get.

Yea they screwed up. They have the best controller concept of the big 3.

As much as i love my 3DS smash bros is, in my eyes more of a console franchise. I shall be buying the Wii U version, big screen, HD graphics etc. I dont think Smash suits the smaller screen (i could be wrong though).

This comment... Win.

And agreed with your original statement. Why would more casual friendly gamers want to buy a Wii U for Smash, when they could get it on the less expensive 3DS?

I really don't think many people are going to choose the 3DS version over the Wii U version. Some people that can't afford a Wii U on release day will get it for 3DS, but for the most part, the 3DS version is going to be bought by people who want both versions like me. The fanbase for Smash has always played on consoles, and while a portable version will be nice, the console version will be so much nicer, and the loyal Smash fans are going to want that version. The 3DS version has one advantage in that you need a copy of the game for every person playing, while with the Wii U version you can share. That and that alone will be the only reason the two versions even be close, otherwise Wii U would cream the 3DS version. The Wii U version will have a much better attach ratio than the 3DS version. A year from now, most of the Wii U's out there will have been bought just for Smash Bros., while everyone who would want it on 3DS almost certainly already has it on 3DS.

I think the 3DS version can have potential to get people interested in the Wii U version if the Wii U version has the right content that makes it irresistible to the 3DS owners who enjoy the game.

What that right content is I can only guess!

Similarly, if the 3DS version plays bad, then it can make new customers who don't want to buy a Wii U and Smash U, and buy a 3DS instead, avoid the Wii U version.

If only Pokemon had a home console and handheld version like Smash Bros : /
