Forums - Gaming - Video games are childish and immature, and I'm totally growing out of them

You must be fun at parties ;)

Seriously, I do see your perspective. I can't enjoy Nintendo games the same way then I did as a teenager. I demand more depth in terms of storytelling and all the character developments/story arcs that come with it.

I am very busy but still set aside some time in the week to play a game here and there. Video games in themselves aren't childish and immature, it is how you play them and how long you play them that is childish and immature. If you sacrifice time in your day reserved for errands or spending time with loved ones for video games, then you are childish and immature. If you spend an hour here and there to unwind after all daily activities are completed, then that is mature on your part.

Given your cynicism to any and all games, you just have to be REALLY selective in the future. There has to be one IP out there that you can tolerate ;P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I'm afraid age and maturity have nothing to do with your personal taste and choice.

A mature person doesnt feel the need to prove to others that he/she is mature. Especially not making a thread in the internet claiming support for his change of interests. Those things happen in life. You dont need to be young or old for it to happen.

You shouldn't have that spoiler tag. Even people who don't read the op will see it and wonder what will be behind it so that you won't get enough responses showing that people don't read the op

Edit: seems like I was wrong and some did still not read it.

You shouldn't have included that last bit. Otherwise it was pretty good. I almost laughed.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

While I do agree that most of games story and writing is shit and that the older I get the less I care about it in games (latest example playing FFX 12 years later and thinking how embarassing the dialogs are and how cool I thought it was back then), there are still some stories or at least parts of it in a lot of games that are well enough written to suck me in and eventually make me more involved in its setting than movies could ever do, because you're actually a part of its narrative.
Oh and on the other hand, the game can still be a lot of fun when you don't give a shit about it's story (like Mario games), as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously and the pacing suffers from it (like MGS4 or Skyward Sword for example)

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

A lot of people grow out of gaming but wouldn't say it's down to them being immature.

You did actually make some great points, but like you, I was going to say it doesn't matter as games are still fun.

Nice to see you didn't side with one particular fanbase either.

Welcome to your 30s bro.

Understand what you mean. I must say however, that i still find titles like the last of us and uncharted very enjoyable. I would like to recommend that you try out Journey and flower. They arent so much games as they are artistic stimulation for your senses. Their artsyle may seem a bit childish, but it actually just comes off as beautiful when you play them

The spoiler totally gave you up from the start :P
