While I do agree that most of games story and writing is shit and that the older I get the less I care about it in games (latest example playing FFX 12 years later and thinking how embarassing the dialogs are and how cool I thought it was back then), there are still some stories or at least parts of it in a lot of games that are well enough written to suck me in and eventually make me more involved in its setting than movies could ever do, because you're actually a part of its narrative.
Oh and on the other hand, the game can still be a lot of fun when you don't give a shit about it's story (like Mario games), as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously and the pacing suffers from it (like MGS4 or Skyward Sword for example)
