Forums - Gaming - Xbox 360 is causing problems for microsoft?

At this point I see Nintendo dropping out of the console space b4 MS does.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

They could have dominated Sony if they released a much more powerful 500$ machine instead of a machine weaker than PS4 and with 100$ more price because of the fuckin' Kinect.

And the events occurred at XboxReveal don't help either.

I happen to know one of the original contributors to the Intel 4004 processor design.  The work he did still exists today in modern processors.  He architected UPS's distribution network in Europe, was a fellow at Cambridge where he was a professor, as well as teaching at several other universities and colleges.  He opened one of the first computer store chains, and still today works on application and system code for companies.

He's not a gamer.  He's buying an Xbox One.  Why?  Because the Xbox One is more powerful than the PS4.

Sure, the PS4 has the specs for the memory, but hidden within those 15 other processors on the APU is a processor that he's excited about and he wants to play with.  The implication is that Microsoft has significantly more in store for the Xbox One than the PS4 could ever hope to achieve.

Ok.

Seeing things that way, then Wii was worse since it died in ~5 years which is very bad. But even to this day, the software is selling well, so it's not at all based in hardware, profit comes more from software and the Gold subscription.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

Look how bad the sales have dropped, 29,000 this past week.

Considering it's like the 7th-8th year of that gen, you'd assume the 360/ps3 would be sold at a profit, or at least a profit with the sale of one game.

But I reckon microsoft tried to play all their cards on xbox one, and in the process abandoning 360.

Xbox One is not selling as much as they would have liked (They wanted to dominate Sony) and xbox 360 has hit hard, likely to get worse as EU slowly abandons it, maybe to current japanese sales levels.

MS have a ton of money, but they still need to make money in each department.

With the xbox one likely being sold at a loss, and recent price cuts meaning they are earning even less, and after the huge investments they made for next gen
(EA love - Dead rising 3/Ryse buyout - Titanfall - Insomniac and $100 million controller r&d) they are losing/not making as much as they'd like money which explains the price cuts & bundling in order to boost sales, very early on.
Add this on top of the fact x360 isn't doing so well for them now, they look like they could be in a nervous position with the xbox division.

The likelyhood of microsoft spinning off the xbox division increases I reckon.

Do you realize XBoX 360 sold approx. 90 MILLION more games than the ps3. 360 has been an amazing success in only their second generation. XB1 is selling even better than the 360, just not as well as the ps4. Then again look at the attach rates 2.84 for XB1 and 2.14 for ps4, accessories and games is where companies make their most money, so who is technically doing better. Learn to look at the full picture before making asinine assumptions.

1) Xbox 360 does much better during the holidays and is still going to sell a few million units in 2014.

2) You ignore the massive amount of software sold on 360. Both physical and digital.

3) Xbox Live also brings in a fuck ton of money.

Don't worry, 360 is still doing fine and better than anyone ever imagined it would back in '05.

I agree about the division being sold off.

huh? first of all the x1 supposedly makes about 30 bucks of profit just on the hardware alone

Nonsense. particularly with the recent price cuts and software freebies, they lose roughly $80 per console. The first batches of consoles are always loss leaders, until the (re-)supply chain is "running on autopilot" and generic cost saving measures have been implemented.

Also the X360 Fifa14 bundle is currently selling for around $220 here (includes taxes and store margin, and a $50 XBox store credit), so they are actually losing money on the X360 hardware, too. Might be a country specific thing, though.

Uh? Link please.
