Sony is having indeed financial trouble for years. But it's looking better and better!

From their last quarter results. What we can see is that the biggest lost is coming from Devices/Vaio laptops luckely Sony got rid of that. It's start looking good!

While it's starting to look better for Sony, that wasn't quite the topic here =) IF playstation branched off, how would that effect playstation? This has nothing to do with Sony's economical situation, it's all speculation as to what would happen.

Let's say that things does go really bad for Sony - so much so -that they are pushed to sell off the playstaion brand. What company would pick up the branch?

My only worry if it is sold to another company - said company would fuck it up because of their inexperience in the industry.

Could SCE in some way or form branch off without being bought out? And would that be a better alternative?

Depends on what company buys the brand. The reason Playstation has been so successful is that Sony nurtures the gaming atmosphere. If someone like, say, Facebook (ugh) bought the brand, it would drift away from primarily being about gaming.

It is more likely that the other devisions branch away from Sony or that Xbox brances away from Microsoft like Elop wanted it to happen.

Whty don't you stick to the topic? Yes, it is HIGHLY unlikely that Sony will sell off the PS brand in the near future, and yes Sony is on the right path to recovery, but that is NOT the question at hand.

The question is, what would happen to the PS brand if it branched off?

Sorry, your right! I just wanted to show everyone that Sony aint that doomed as every thinks. Yes, they have financial trouble, but it's just, because of a few devisions.

OT: It depends on which company will be the new owner. There is a huge difference in between the American/Japanese business culture. Like GM and Toyota, I'm afraid if an American company will get its hands on the Playstation brand they will milk it so much that.... Can't even think about it.

Yeah I agree; if another company would buy the brand, it really needs to have a genuine interest in the gaming market, or else the whole enterprise would be in danger of collapsing.

Do you mean PS or SCE?

Cause PS is more of a brand then a division.

I actually don't know... Which one is more likely to branch off? I don't think anyone would want PS alone; I think if this scenario would be believable, I think we have to assume the whole of SCE would branch off, right? How would want playstation without all the games??
