Timing sucks as well(3DS breaking) cause I was getting hyped for Fire Emblem: Awakening, Bravely Default and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. 

I don't think there is ever a good point for a system to stop working tho, the instant you drop a handheld or see a red ring you'll immediately remember all the games that you now can't play since it broke. Did you have any eshop games btw? just wondering because while it's in its semi working state you should still be able to do a system transfer of your files and games, if it comes to getting another 3ds.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe and Super Mario 3D Land, but I got those for free and to be honest, I didn't really like them. And I finished most of Super Mario 3D Land anyway, so won't be replaying it any time soon. 

And it just turns off automatically now after turning it on with a little ploff sound, so I couldn't do that anyway. 

Let's hope the repair costs are cheaper than buying a new one because I'm not sure I'm willing to pay another €180 for a 3DS. 

I'd say just buy a new 3DS (if you do the XL is way better!)

Because if you do send it in it will cost as much as a new one, except you will probably lose all your save data, streetpass data etc on it, because all repairs like this employs lazy people who don't give a damn about your data.

Buy a new one and do a System Transfer, if your upper screen doesn't work it's fine because all the actions you need to do are on the lower screen I remember.

Not sure if I want to buy a new 3DS if it's costing me another €180... I mean, if a couple of rain drops already kill the system and they're asking €180 for repair they can honestly go fuck themselves. 

I've had cellphones in the washing machine that still came out ok... 

Well, if a screen is broken it will probably cost at least 70 % of the original price to replace it, I'm fairly certain :(

On a sidenote, I once had a cell phone in the washing machine too, but I wasn't as lucky, the SIM card looked like a leaked battery and that spread over the whole phone.

I dropped my DS lite into a river once. It was flown away but I managed to get it out a few meters along the river. The system was turned on when I dropped it, and to my surprise, both the game and the system were still working. It was full of sand, though.

After 2 years, one of the hinges on the system broke (I hear that's been a huge problem with DS lites), and a few months after that, the top screen tinged red. I didn't know if that was related to the accident from 2 1/2 years ago or from the hinge breaking. Either way, I was amazed it worked for so long. And it still is working to this day, aside from the colour error.

Sucks that the 3DS didn't make it, though. I know repairing it is expensive, and I'd probably buy a new one if I were you, though I can see how that might not be the best idea.

Those couple of rain drops wouldn't have killed the system if you had been patient and put the 3DS in rice for a few days rather than hours and hadn't been stupid enough to turn the thing on straight away lol. Like I mentioned there's a guy on Gaf who had his 3DS in the washing machine whilst it was in Sleep Mode who did things properly and it works fine, including the 3D.

You make it sound as if there's something wrong with the reliability of the hardware which clearly isn't the case.

I've never had a system go broke so easily. We aren't even talking about a lot of water here, just some drops.
