It's still early on to this year, almost 4 months into 2014, the PS4 has just recently been launched in Japan. So it's difficult to predict how much the PS4 will sell in the coming months over there.

As of now the PS4 has sold about 0.38 million units in Japan and the Wii U 1.66 m. VGC numbers.

The PS4 as I said has just recently been released and the Wii U has been out on the Japanese market for about 1 year and 4 months.

So the question is, will/can the PS4 top the Wii U this year for total sales in Japan?

Nope, it'll happen in 2015 with FFXV and MGSV.

If games of note are coming out this year then yes.

Probably in 2015 sometime for sure not in the next 12 months.

No chance.  Maybe in 2015 when games like FFXV will come out, but  2014 is impossible since  the WIi U is getting big games like MK8 and SSB4.

Maybe 2015, impossible.  I heard alot of that about PS4 in the past and it crushed those nay sayers brutally.

F**k no. I don't think it will have as good of a first year either without 2 holiday seasons.

Not likely. The PS4 currently has no exclusive that appeal to the Japan audience (literally none :p), while the WiiU has it's biggest titles coming out. Should win 2015 though.
