Forums - Gaming - Why such a huge gap in quality between Playstation and Xbox exclusives?

I ask myself the same question. Why can't Sony make anything as good as Halo or Gears or Alan Wake?

True. It all comes down to what you enjoy playing more. I can only stomach Naughty Dog games for one playthrough since they are geared more towards story and presentation than gameplay. GT used to be my favorite franchise but took a big step back this gen. Sony sent SOCOM and Twisted Metal, two more of my all time favorite franchises, out to die this gen as well. I loved the first Motorstorm but they had Evolution go further and further away from the original with each sequel, finalizing with an RC game and a shitty disaster style racer with Call of Duty inspired perks and unlocks and other bullsh. For the most part I was unimpressed with Sony's 1st party at the end of the PS3's lifecycle. They might have been releasing more games than MS was (retail anyway) but that doesn't really matter when most of them are games no one buys.

Knack vs Titanfall...

God of war vs any Xbox exclusive..... Uncharted vs any Xbox exclusive.... Lbp vs any Xbox exclusive... All those franchises are iconic.. And better than any Xbox franchise.. Halo being the only one that started off as good but fell apart in quality after 2

The Halo franchise is bigger, an better than those 3 franchises you just named imo

Sony's first party has gotten worse over the years to me. Forza has made GT obsolete in my eyes. Socom and Syphon Filter were probably my 2 favorite Sony IP and both appear to be dead. Shadow of the Colossus was another game I loved but The Last Guardian is vaporware and even if it does come out it will probably be another Duke Nukem Forever.

I never did like God of War or Killzone because I feel like they are among the worst games in their genres. Give me DMC and Halo over those any day. And I can live without Naughty Dog games because they lack replay value because of how linear and story driven they are.

Easy... Uncharted and The Last of Us shit on all of those games and unlike all of those games you mentioned they were concieved first party. Unless Microsoft does something Halo is only going to get so popular and the same with Gears. Of course I love Gears but I have to accept reality. Those two games are all made by only one of Sony's teams.  ;)

Luckily not everyone agrees with this. As I said I and many others wouldnt trade Xbox for Playstation. Sony dont have anything to compare to Hslo in our opinion. Its an OPINION.

So quality is decided by the sales of a game? And that the PS3 had nothing to play other than multiplat games for teh first 2 years is BS that I never understood. WHen they had games like MGS4, Resistance 1 and 2, Vallyria Chronicles, Motor Storm PR, MLB The Show Rachet and Clank, LBP, Naruto UNS, Folklore, GT: Prologe, Uncharted 1, Heavenly Sword etc and those are ALL exclusives so that no game stuff was just something others came up with.

This gen both started strong thanks to multiplat games and both have some decent exclusives so they are pretty much in the same boat right now if you ask me.

quality is not determined by sales, they are a reflection.

Those were 11 exclusives that came out in the 2 year period following the PS3's release, but most towards the end. Just a few were actually in the first year. MS did release twice as many during that period.

But I just named 13 and didn't even name them all that came out in the first two years of the PS3's release. Heck they had 13 exclusives in their first year alone(For reference the 360 had 7 in it's first year) and then over 20 their second year. I think Ms released 44 exclusive games their first 2 years compared to Sony only releasing 34(nowhere near the twice as many you mentioned) So again the "no games" stuff was just bs. Granted not every game appealed to everyone but they had games.

Now I agree that sales is a refelection of quality though. Even though say Lost Odyessey easily the best RPG on the Xbox 360 did not sell huge numbers it was still a very good quality game. Where as wii sports sold over 10 million and is not of the highest quality by any means at all. Sales sometimes reflect quality other times they reflect what is popular at the time, then they can also relect what is most afforadable as well. Sales have so many factors it is crazy.

Sony has been making new Ip's, while Microsoft has not.

I actually agree with Selnor it is all opinion. Though TarHeels did make a statement like it was fact and Stage gave him two games that were just as good as the ones TarHeels mentioned. Albeit they may not be his, nor yours or even the types of games others like they are still every bit as good. At teh end it all boils down to what you personally like to play. Me I LOVED Gears 1 and though 2 and 3 were just OK IMO. Never was a big Halo fan and Alan Wake was a good game to me. But if I had to name my top 3 favorite games from 360 they would be Lost Odyessy, Ninja Blade and Gears 1. Nothing on 360 tops those 3 games in my opinion and two of those games did not even receive a lot of critcal appeal.

Now if this thread was to go by overall critic appeal as an average rating then the PS3 has actually had the highest exclusive critic appel rating since 2007.(Again average of all the exclusives that came out during that year/s). So if that is what is meant by quality then yes the PS3 takes it as far as critic appeal goes. But for the basis it still boils down to the games you prefer to play.

Why are you trying to compare movies to games?

And Halo has always been first party. Microsoft owned Bungie when they made it.

Its funny you call those games movies because 343 is starting to learn how to increase the storytelling in Halo on almost on par with Sony. Both Sony games have heavy gameplay elements, but of course you would ignore it to satisfy your bias. Also, no...look up your history...Halo was being made for Apple and Microsoft bought them while the game was in development. Lets just say Steve Jobs wasn't a happy camper. Acquiring that game single handedly saved Microsofts gaming debut. Most of Microsofts top titles were acquired or published from other companies. What...do you think that much creativity comes in- house at Microsoft? LMAO! Just enjoy playing the games.

Ok buddy that draws the line. 343 outdid Bungie with storytelling as far as I am concerned. And none of Sonys 1st party stories are anything special until The Last of Us came along.

Even Sony had to start from scratch from nothing.....you seriosuly think they were all made from the ground up and not bought elsewhere? Do you even give props to MS for making Project Spark?

Speaking for myself and myself, only--I got an Xbox 360 in '07 and a PS3 in '08. I will openly acknowlege that Sony has more exclusives and if those exclusives are your cup of tea, than enjoy them. I'm the kind of gamer that buys whatever gets my attention without fail. That's why the free PS+ and GWG sales mean nothing to me. I already have what I want.

Now my tastes don't equal the majority and diversity is a good thing. I just know that when I look at my Xbox 360 and PS3 libraries side by side, there's waaaaaay more games that I own for 360 that aren't playable on PS3 in any form (including games shared w/ PC like Splinter Cell Conviction) than there are PS3 games that aren't playable on 360 in any form. Can't speak for the world because, at the end of the day, I play what I want to play and that's all that matters.

I hear about the amazing PS3 exclusives and I own most of what people would consider the best (LBP1 and 2, Uncharted 1-3, Heavy Rain, Valkyria Chronicles, God of War, Heavy Rain, etc.). Some times they lived up to the hype for me. Other times, I was greatly disappointed (Killzone 3 was one of the few times out of HUNDREDS of 7th gen purchases where I've traded in a game at Gamestop--and I didn't even finish it!). Whatever rings your bell.

Off topic: I just wonder why forums always speak of franchise fatigue when it comes to Gears, Fable, Forza, and Halo or Mario and Zelda and never when it came to Resistance, Killzone, Uncharted, LBP. I always welcome a good game on any platform with open arms.

Very pretentious. Halo is 1st party. Doesn't matter if MS bought the IP in 2001 or whenever, it is their IP and 343 is their studio. Period.

To pose a opposing opinion for the sake of devils advocate, I would venture to say that Naughty Dog carries Sony 1st party. The rest are either forgettable, in decline, outdone by 3rd parties or MS own competiing IPs.
