The fact that a good chunk of the reviews that make up Metacritic scores use different grading scales means that Meta scores really shouldn't be taken seriously.

Think about it. This thread is about applying a subjective rating to a score that is made up a bunch of other subjective ratings. Pulling an absolute out of that mess is close to meaningless.

Personally, I look at Meta scores as nothing more than a guide with a very wide +/- range, and then as only context to the actual review article. The words are the important bits.

Exactly, the problem with Metacritic is that it changes a 3 star to a 60 which shouldn't happen since it's a precision problem, and they sometimes weigh scores differently for whatever reason. Another problem with Metacritic is how alot of people use it, they only see the scores and don't bother to actually read the reviews.

Squeezol's Fanclub Member? is that how it works?

10 Avoid day 1 purchase, 90% chance it's going to be disappointing.
9 Proceed with caution, probably hype and big money talking.
8 Run of the mill something for everyone fest.
7 Good game I'll probably enjoy if it's in my interest area.
6 Now we're talking, specifics are putting reviewers off, if it's what interests me I'll love it.
5 Depends what the issues are, still worth checking out.
4 Start getting worried it could really be bad, could also be clickbait.
3 Broken game.
2.Broken motion control game
1.Broken freemium game.

10 - nice :)
9 - whatever
8 - whatever
7 - whatever
6 - whatever
5 - whatever
4 - whatever
3 - whatever
2 - whatever
1 - whatever

What do i mean with this? 1st, that i like when a game, any game, get's a 10, i just think it's nice to see someone (reviewer) with the courage to do it, now 2nd and most important i buy a game because i want to buy a game, i listen to what my trusted friends comment, i play the games, i investigate about them, this doesn't mean that i base my purchases in any of those things, i just buy a game because i want to, i have the courage to make blind purchases if it is a genre i enjoy, that's why i find so frustrating when people bring review scores into a discussion about anything, there's a certain couple of games which scored (all of them) 7 and under going through 5's and 4's across the board and it is the best trilogy i've ever played, haven't u heard ''you can't tell someone they're wrong w/o standing on his shoes?'' i feel it somewhat relates to this haha, so yeah, i like reading reviews they just mean nothing to me, nothing at all, i read them mostly to inform myself about the games which is why i hate rewiers who don't give a deep insight on the mechanics of a game... and think they are fake ass/paid by -insert company-/idiots.

If it's a genre I like, then I'll go down into the 70s. If not, 85+ before I'll spend money on it.

i prefer the x games rating...

1-5.... all the .something is too complicated and opens too much possibilities....

i always interpret it as

5 - Amazing game and should be play and it better be as good as orgasm

4 - Great game with some flaws

3 - Just ok or average game.

2 - A lot of flaws and should only be played if you like the genre

1 - Garbage.....

so in metacritic... 3 would be a 60/100

Taste in games is very subjective... i dont know why people are swaying away from the games that receives score around 60 or less....

Your scale seems rather lax compared to my interpretation. My 60/100 is garbage. While your 20/100 is garbage. Seems kind of off when I compare my scale of /10 to your /5 though.

it is...

but i dont see a point of 9.5 vs 10.... what is the difference between the .5 out of these possibilities...

1

1.5

2

2.5

3

3.5

4

4.5..... there are too many....

60/100 is not garbage for me... since people have different taste....

and should consider that some genres are more tolerable to some people compare to other....

and most people consider 1-5 out of 10 not playable or garbage... then what is the difference between 2 vs 2.5 if they are both not playable... i think 1-5 is the best rating for games....

for example... dragon ball have a meta of 57 which is around 2-3 out of 5 in the 1-5 rating... it might have a lot of flaws but if im a dragon ball fanatics and a fighting game addict... i still have to play it since it is on my line of genre even if it receive mixed reviews....

10-9.6 - Game of the Year and Game of the Generation contender. This is a stunning game in every aspect with little or no flaws. A definitive must-buy. Rare gems like these can't be replicated.
9.5-8.8 - Damn good game. Solid game with good gameplay and storyline that guarantees hours of fun. Gotta buy it.
8.7-8.1 - Very good game. It has it's couple of mistakes here and there, but the concept is good and it works.
8.0-7.7 - A good game that could've been better. It's still worth checking out.
7.6-7.0 - An OK game. It can be fun, but the mistakes are noticeable and potential turn-offs. Its lasting appeal wears off quickly. I might buy it when it's on a sale... or not.
6.9-5.0 - A below average game. Poor in every aspect. As soon as I stop playing it, there's not a reason to pick it up and finish it.
4.9-3.0 - A bad game, plain and simple. Sometimes, this is where movie based games end up. A quick cash grab.
2.9-0 - A foul abomination. A poor excuse for a game. Developers knew this game was bad and still released it. It should be declared a threat for the sanity.

I tend to not put value into any reviewer's numerical system because they oftentimes don't match what the reviewer actually thinks. Furthermore, for far too many games, I've found that the opinions of professional reviewers to be pretty garbage. If I were to care about what a reviewer though (which I don't), then I would actually read the text of the review (which I don't). Numerical scores simply let me know if I should consider looking at a game. Generally high scores would encourage me to see some YouTube videos, play a demo, etc., but no further than that.

However, if I were to review games, I would probably use the following scoring system (If I used numbers at all):

10 - Masterpiece (GOTG contender)
9 - Excellent (GOTY contender)
8 - Great Game / Thoroughly enjoyable
7 - Good Game / Mostly Enjoyable
6 - Fair Game/ Nothing Special
5 - Bland

Anything lower than a 5 I probably wouldn't bother playing

9-10: Don't care.
8-9: Don't care
6.5-8: Don't care
6-6.5: Don't care
0-6: Don't care

Yeah, I assign numerical values when I review a game, but I personally stopped caring a while back about review scores of any kind, or any kind of numerical value attributed to a game on some generalized standards.
If I'm interested in the game, I will play it.
If not, no.
I just can't get invested anymore in scores. They tire me out and I find myself so often in complete conflict with "professional" scores that they've lost all value to me.

10 - On My Radar
9 - Watch a Let's Play
8 - Generally Ignore
7 - Pass
