So, this mainly came to my mind when I saw infamous ss meta and how some people reacted to it. I'll give you my scale, of course this scale is used along with my general interest in the game. I'm not going to buy a game I have zero interest in even if it is goty level. My decesion does get a bit iffy once it drops below 7.5 though.

9.5-10/10-Must buy, goty contender

9/10-fantastic

8.5/10-really good

8/10-good

7.5/10-above average

7/10-average

6.5/10-bad

6/10-garbage

Anything below-ya, don't think so

I honestly don't buy games below 8.5 score unless I really like said game(Mario Kart Wii for example).

Unless said games would be cheap, then I might buy them. If I ever see Mario & Luigi Dream Team for cheap I'll probably buy it.

if a game scores 9+ and I don't like the genre, I still won't buy it however.

Just like you said: if a game gets a 93/100 metacritic, I still wont buy it if it isn't my type of game. However, if I would look forward to a game and it would score low (below 65/100) I'd get worried obviously.

  • 9-10: GOTY Contender
  • 8-9: Good game, likely to appear it a lot of people's top 10 of the year list
  • 6.5-8: Chance of being a nice, good game.
  • 6-6.5: Getting worried
  • 0-6: Probably wont bother unless I'm a huge fan of the franchise

10- Either the reviewers have low standards or they got paid cause no game is perfect

9.6-9.9 - Damn, must buy!
9.0-9.5 - Pretty epic, must buy!
8.5-8.9- Pretty cool, worth buying!
8.0-8.4- Pretty good, worth checking out!
7.1-7.9- Good, worth a look!
6.0-7.0- Meh, Unless it has something really good like zomfg must see tits, I won't bat an eye
0-5.9- Nope, Not gonna bother with this anal lube

Obviously this doesn't apply with fan reviews

I believe reviews are trash. I don´t look at their numerical scores because i don´t even read reviews. I judge a game by my own opinion and not somebody elses.

I don't take the metascore as a valuable score. I take it as a general opinion on the game. But there are games that I played that have scored a 77 but I would personally give an 89. The score of a game is relative to the individual.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

I get pretty hesitant below a 70, but there are still games that average in the 60's that I enjoy.

It's too subjective for me :/ For example if something is a new IP (such as TLOU) i expect it to get a slightly higher score compared to a sequel of equal quality, so i see it's scores differently. People complain about reviewers claiming a game to be better than it's predecessors, yet give it the same or lower score, but that's just how things are. When you have something to directly compare it to your opinion becomes much more focused on not just the game, but of how it compares to your previous experience with it. That tends to make people focus much more on the things is does wrong or as bad as it's predecessor than what it does better.

I don't take much notice... My gaming purchases have either been due to word of mouth/reputation or based on past experience with a franchise (some of my initial entries into a franchise were bought based on boxart/price/availability)

If I'm interested in a game then if it gets:

10 - holy crap, must buy

9.5-9.9 - amazing, must buy

9-9.4 - extremely good, will almost definately buy

8.5-8.9 - really good, will probably buy

8-8.4 - very good, will probably buy

7-8 - good, probably will buy but a few doubts

6-7 - ok, might not buy

below 6 - almost definately won't buy
