USA really needs to do something about stuff like this... I feel as though most of the Amercians don't realize just how bad the situation of false privacy really is

What I dont understand is this:

Lets say a cop is going into your house on his own and finds alot of weed. Then you actually have no problem because the cop was never allowed to enter and so the evidence is not valid.

People that get problems because some idiots ignore their privacy should just sue them  because its the same. You never allowed X to see your data so whatever they find is not valid as evidence. And even if you agreed to let Microsoft give the data to third parties you NEVER accepted that the third party can do more than STORE it. You never agreed in letting the third party LOOK at it and especially not in analyzing and using against you. That was NEVER part of the contract.

So you are the one who reads all those walls of text before clicking "Continue"? I bet more than 90% of companies have some wording like "may sell your data" with MAYBE additional "to partners". So what, that's happening. It's quite naive to think that companies that only work with money would put all your data on secure servers with references that you can't backtrack in any way. I mean, I knew this years ago as a kid that companies don't do that, why should I believe what they want to be seen as? Yeah you can call me paranoid now but that is how the world is turning and if you haven't noticed by now, will you ever?

I wonder how long companies and states can go on like this before people react. We don't need a revolution-like thing to get back to real freedom, equality and human rights but people don't do anything aside from moaning and posting their "opinion" on web services that are involved lol. Problem is people don't respect human rights anymore either. Not on such a huge scale but lots of people don't care about other people's freedom and rights because their own freedom > all because they are free!! It doesn't matter that the actual idea of freedom was that you are free unless you limit anyone else's freedom/rights (yeah it's called laws now but that's just additional to the rights). If it doesn't change why should global players change their stuff.

Agree here, while they shouldn't be able to use information they acquire like this against people you know they do everyday. Tis just a bit sad when Americans set aside so much money to keep them safe but a massive amount of it is spent on stuff they don't know is happening and is invading their own privacy/breaking their own constitutional rights.

You'll probably have accidentally sold the rights to air it on a reality TV show when you clicked the EULA to upgrade your itunes version, and we'll all tune in and watch it as soon as Honey Boo Boo finishes her presidental Speech about sketti.

and ???? what's surprising every company does that.... phone companies charge between 5 thousands and 15 thousands bucks for wiretaping to the police.... there is nothing new or surprising here... it's funny how snowden poped a buble that was nothing new what so ever to anybody with half brain and was informed a little bit....

that doesnt justify it or make it any less wrong though.

you arent looking at this right...

Not sure what the problem is.

The FBI demand the info... MS has just decided to charge to do it I presume?

They HAVE to hand the info over, they CANT refuse... why not charge them for it?

If anything it might reduce the amount the FBI ask for.

Unbelievable. If Microsoft started sacrificing children I'm sure you'd find a way to defend them.

its not my fault you dont understand whats going on here... try opening your mind

if you ran a business and the FBI came and sad we want you to do x, and doing x cost you time and man power... would you be happy about that or would you want to charge them for your time to complete task x?

If it really cost that much to retrieve and send information, most people wouldnt be using computers.
