Forums - Nintendo - So, a top down view Zelda for Wii U instead of a full 3D adventure?

Top-down Zelda for Wii U

I'll love Skyward Sword! 37 32.46%

I'll soar away! 30 26.32%

Is that the N64 OoT commercial? 24 21.05%

Zelda should be gore 23 20.18%

Total:114

There is a 0% chance of Zelda U being exclusively top down. Maybe a top down view on the gamepad, but there will be a 3rd person from behind view somewhere. The next portable Zelda will be top down though, not counting remakes of course.

They should do that for Zelda U. It would really showcase the gamepad's capabilities.

Not gonna happen. Stop with wishes and candy. Doing that it will be like doing 2 different games. It will cost a lot of money. Please understand. Not gonna happen.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

It won't be top-down. Good grief.

They'll make more top-down Zelda games since ALBW was so well-received, but the new Wii U game they'll be showing in 3 months at E3 will be a full 3D Zelda game.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

I actually don't like 3D Zelda games, so I'm all for making AAA top-down Zelda games like the old 2D ones. But, of course, that's never gonna happen, so what we should expect should be top-down sections on the new home console Zelda games, and, unfortunately, nothing more than that.

They have not said that this upcoming Wii U Zelda will be top down. In fact I very seriously doubt that it will be.

I do believe he was making remarks to the effect of saying (without conforming) that the next portable Zelda will likely be similar to ALBW, and not the Toon Link style anymore.

I do not expect home console Zeldas to be top down.

All the more reason not to expect Zelda U to have a top down view. They made the comment about top down view being a possibility for future games long, LONG into the development of Zelda U. It's too late to change to a top down view for precisely the reason you said. I do think having dual perspectives on the TV and gamepad would be awesome though. If they can't do it for Zelda U, they should do it for Zelda U 2 if the Wii U has a long enough lifespan (hey, Gamecube got three Zelda games, it could happen!).

It's not going to happen. The Wii U Zelda will be similar to the 2011 tech demo, only better looking. A Twilight Princess art direction and no top-down or cel-shaded stuff in sight.

Expect a similar use of the GamePad that we saw with Wind Waker HD with the addition of a couple of new items that use the GamePad features.

Everyone really needs to stop worrying about Zelda U.

It'd be lovely if you were right about the tech demo. Most people are worried it will have some cartoony style and hope it will be in the tech demo's style instead.

Don't worry - after Skyward Sword and Wind Waker HD they're not going to release a third consecutive cel-shaded Zelda.

i'd buy it if it was a 20$ eshop title. And eagerly await a 3d adventure that'd better not be more than a year off.
