Forums - Gaming - Who brought the most innovations in the console market? Last decade?

Which company?

Microsoft 118 19.16%

Sony 156 25.32%

Nintendo 339 55.03%

Total:613

Non of the big three, all of their ideas were other peoples that they jacked from elsewhere or bought.
Buying someones idea isn't innovation, it's business.

Being the first to introduce an existing technology "in a console" is not innovation, it's progression.

So if MS gets to claim online as a console innovation (was already on console and had been on PC for a while. Does that mean Sony gets to claim VR as a console innovation? And since VR was announced, and demo'd before the thread was created, do we get to include VR on consoles as one of the considerations for console innovation?

Only if VR actually takes off on consoles like online gaming did with Halo 2.

1. Nintendo
2. Microsoft
3. Sony

The two biggest innovators in the console market are Nintendo and Sega. Sony also made some innovations as well. In terms of the last decade, I would probably with go Nintendo. The Wii sold like hotcakes when the motion control fad was large and Sony and Microsoft had to create the PS Move and Kinect respectively, to compete.

When its all said and done...Sony.

Eyetoy was the first major camera on the market for console games so you can have camera tracking.
VR Headset
Two player 3D TV for gaming (Yes...you heard right.)
touch pad (See Killzone:Shadowfall)
Six axis
Controller speakers
Move/ PSEye combo was very innovative in its combined approach to gaming.
PSN Plus
Sony"s "The Tester"

Playstation Now

All first party made and quality.

Those arent innovations. They just brought PC gaming to consoles.

Obviously it's Nintendo because of the Wii.
The brand that made the best for the gaming industry, I would say Sony.

Are you sure you aren't confusing his list with your own?

Eyetoy was the first major camera on the market for console games so you can have camera tracking. Cameras existed for gaming long before Eyetoy. Hell, they were used for controls on PC before Eyetoy, and webcam games have existed for years.
VR Headset Are you implying Sony is the first company to try a VR headset?
Two player 3D TV for gaming (Yes...you heard right.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmJG_NHHfHg
touch pad (See Killzone:Shadowfall) LOL touch pad (See: too many games to count)
Six axis Not only had PC controllers and arcades and other consoles had motion control already, but this controller was announced shortly after Nintendo revealed the Wii. What a shock
Controller speakers PC and WiiU
Move/ PSEye combo was very innovative in its combined approach to gaming. lol ok
PSN Plus Steam offers discounts and free games and betas and demos and doesn't even charge for any of it
Sony"s "The Tester" Sony was the first to offer a live action series on their own console network. Of course, they existed on PC and uh, you know, television, long before

Playstation Now Yes, Sony created cloud gaming.

Not that I like those games, the pay for online infrastructure, or achievements.

I don't, though I've come around to achievements.

The motion controls of wii are close, but that's heavily dieing now.

Didn't Sega do this with Dreamcast? But I would agree that MS really pushed the online forward a lot so you have a very valid point there.

I'm not really sure which one is the most innovative, perhaps Nintendo. They always try out new things, mostly bad in my opinion though. And we also have the online which MS pushed a lot. The push of BD as a new medium was also great from Sony. And PS Now is something really fresh and new to look forward to, also people seem to like Kinect a lot for all its features. The new Wii U-pad? Hm, maybe. The Wii-motes were of course very cool when they came.

I think all three has been very innovative, or at least innovative enough, but I guess I'd have to say Nintendo.

And I would like to say that I think Nintendo is perhaps too innovative when it comes to their consoles, they push new things too far in my opinion. MS and Sony do it more causiosly and don't take it to extremes. Perhaps Kinect is a bit too pushy, and the Sixaxis thing Sony had. But overall I'd say they do it better. In my opinion.
