From what i understand, the Beta also had frame rate issues. perhaps you and your friend were too hype for the game to have noticed.
Perhaps it's only now that you're "settled-in" and had more time with the game that you finally notice it's imperfections.

Would be only logical if they actually beefed up the graphics after the beta.

Didnt the beta lack some things ? so it make sense if final version runs a bit different as its different then what you played in the beta.

The hype clouded your mind by the time the game was release the hype was down and you saw reality. I once was in the same place as you and I have been hype free for 4 years there's still hope
