A shame Nintendo won't ever do cross-buy. But no, I don't think the WiiU version will sell well.

You know how much Melee sold right? Sure, this one's multiplatform and the Wii U is currently doing worse than the GCN ever was, but I'd still expect 5 million minimum for the Wii U version.

And you know how much the previous 2D Mario games have sold, right?

And you know 2D Mario =/= Smash Bros. right?

So, SSB4 will buck the trend that Wii games have been following?

Uh no, the Wii U version alone will obviously be short of Brawl, but it doesn't have to sell like Brawl to sell well. Hence I brought up Melee, a game that sold really well despite the GCN's poor install base.

SSB4 Sales shouldn't be prioritized over the Wii U's, unless of course the Wii U is Nintendo's Vita.

No. It's stupid because they announced both versions simultaneously. They could have easily made the Wii U version first to bolster hardware sales then announce and release the 3ds version a couple months later.

Are you assuming since they were announced at the same time that they will be released at the same time? I highly doubt they will. In fact I'm fairly confident Nintendo will release the Wii U one first by 1-3 months.

Why would they do that? It'd be like releasing Pokemon X 3 months before Pokemon Y! I mean they're basically the same game, so they should release at the same time!

In order to give each one a launch boost that doesn't hurt the other.

When the thread "So Smash Bros Wii U didn't move units" gets posted, I wonder if it will be "financially intelligent"

Yep, since as I've been saying, SSB4 wont move Wii U units long term regardless of whether or not it's exclusive, so better to maximize profits and boost up the system that's actually doing something. Good job not responding to my previous response towards ya though!

Who says the 3DS version will kill the Wii U version?
That's like saying that new refrigerator model will kill the new microwave ovens.

I don't see that stopping people from buying only one version of the game, infact this would only encourage you to buy only one since you're forced to for some time, and during that time word of mouth will spread about the current version and people might become content with it, hindering the later versions launch. All just theory-oh of course! I'm sure we'll see what Nintendo decides to do here at E3!

Thing is this will kill any future home console sales too because people will expect the next smash to be on a portable too.

This strategy kind of puts those hybrid system rumors bit closer to reality. Sad part is if they do have a hybrid system how will this system ever keep up with Sony even at PS4 levels. It will be so outdated unless the console has its own super hardware (almost PS5 level) and the portable has its own different hardware

If Mario can't get those 5M sales, SSB4 won't either.
