No. It's stupid because they announced both versions simultaneously. They could have easily made the Wii U version first to bolster hardware sales then announce and release the 3ds version a couple months later.

Well....I have a 3DS and a friend of mine has a Wii U.

He will definitely buy the Wii U version that we can all play together in the same living room, and I can buy my own for my own selfish reasons.

I mean, I don't OWN a Smash Bros. game myself since the very first one. I've been playing it in my friends' houses every weekend.
Maybe having a job or something makes things easier for me to own my own games now xD

Rest assured, I'm one of those fans that given the chance would DEFINITELY buy the two versions.
I'm THAT sick (?)

The Wii U wasn't on the market yet, so they couldn't have known how badly it was gonna sell. The Wii U is a lost cause at this point anyway, atleast in terms of conventional means helping it (more games, price cuts, etc.).

They're kinda cannibalizing their own market for short term gain though.

A person who has a 3DS would probably be right to ask "why should I buy a Wii U? I get Mario Kart, Mario 3D, Mario 2D, Smash Bros., Zelda, DKC on my 3DS that gives me my Nintendo franchise fix, I'm not spending $300 on another console for the same franchises".

Also I really do think both NSMB2 and NSMBU were hurt by being released so close to each other.

Your only seeing one side of it. The other side of it is console gamers who have refused to buy handhelds because those are dumbed down games. Now we are seeing very similar games appear on handhelds as we see on home consoles so people who have the home consoles are more likely to expand to own handhelds as well because the software is starting to get on the same quality level as home console software.

It will eat Wii U sales period.

Just talk to local gamers and you will see.

They already saying im gonna get Smash on 3DS and I will be like but smash is a console game and they like why buy more hardware.

It will be like MH but in reverse sale wise.

Nintendo should have announced it for Wii U only and waited a year to announce a 3DS version if sales were not going good.

Are you assuming since they were announced at the same time that they will be released at the same time? I highly doubt they will. In fact I'm fairly confident Nintendo will release the Wii U one first by 1-3 months.

I'm one of those.

I had a Gameboy(plus Gameboy color) and gameboy advance(only to play pokémon silver, so Nintendo didn't earn much from me, I blame my age lol), but skipped the DS. I bought the 3DS because of the many good 3d games on the system.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Zelda: ALBW, Pokémon X/Y, Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Resident Evil: Revelations, Super Mario 3D Land(didnt like this one all that much actually), Kirby Triple Deluxe, Bravely Default(not my kind of game, but might give it a try when the price drops), etc

A shame Nintendo won't ever do cross-buy. But no, I don't think the WiiU version will sell well.

You know how much Melee sold right? Sure, this one's multiplatform and the Wii U is currently doing worse than the GCN ever was, but I'd still expect 5 million minimum for the Wii U version.

And you know how much the previous 2D Mario games have sold, right?

And you know 2D Mario =/= Smash Bros. right?

So, SSB4 will buck the trend that Wii games have been following?

When the thread "So Smash Bros Wii U didn't move units" gets posted, I wonder if it will be "financially intelligent"

Why would they do that? It'd be like releasing Pokemon X 3 months before Pokemon Y! I mean they're basically the same game, so they should release at the same time!
