so I read this

http://www.gamrreview.com/article/91119/gayming-the-under-representation-of-gay-characters-in-video-games/

for info i'm white (as fuck), straight (i think) , guy (so far lol ) , human (I'm not a dog!)

how "minorities" are portrayed in a "political correct manner" is an issue I see with everything nowadays...

no its not that Gay movies shouldn't exist, or gay characters shouldn't exist, its that the way people want movies and books to portray them is lame, its the same as how black people are portrayed in american media, in any media for example the characters are always like this there is the jane and joe and their daughter and their son, and that black guy / hot-funny gay guy/ hot-funny lesbian/ asian ...ect

It should not be about having gay characters... its about having normal characters that have gay sexuality, I'm pretty sure fellow gay people here would appriecate if media portrayed them more as ACTUAL HUMANS rather than "oh that one gay character" or "lol he gay!" or that one "he's only there to appeal to homos" for political correctness matters, why do you think no one takes the "Black guy in movies" thing seriously, because its so stereotypical, you shouldn't be appealing to the stereotypical stupid "gangta niggas" you should be making actual people who are black, you know ... a character who doesn't mention that he's black every freaking 5 minutes and doesn't hate other characters because they're white and he listens to hip hop

the same thing is for Gay characters, you don't have to show how this guy likes to say "omg i love penis!" "omg those shoooooooesss?!? with that top?!!?" or just goes around fucking every male character he sees because its so edgy and so hot to be queer, you need a good character, I still can't think of any movie that did this yet, and the west is so behind in this department compared to anime/manga, outside from hentai yaoi manga , gay characters are presented in a human way , they're just like everyone else, they're not obsessed with showing how gay they are, they're not obssessed with "Hawt steaming man body!" they're not obssessed with girly things, they're just good characters.

What I'm saying is don't just throw characters in your game/movie/story/book whatever just for the sake of appealing to an audience, put characters there that would make good characters, first and formost fuck the audience its your characters you do whatever you like, you should be driving the audience not them driving you,  you should be making good characters first and their sexuality second, you can never love someone because you expect them to be perfectly the way you wanted them to be, you love someone because they surprise you with things you never expect them to do.

I think the best gay character of any videogame, you couldnt even tell that they were gay. Thats the point. There was no stereotype, there was no indication of it at all. No big deal made out of it. Nothing to single him out, until of course it was bang in front of you.

Spoilers for The Last of Us, Im talking about Bill.

Great character.

What bugs me is when it seems like the only storyline that gay characters get is their sexuality. I know gay people can go through a lot of struggles regarding their sexual identity, but those aren't the only problems or aspects about their lives!
I like how The Walking Dead does it, both in the show and in the comics. It's part of their lives, but that's not their central definition of themselves, much like how straight people don't centralize their identity for their heterosexuality.

No human being or fictional character should be defined by their sexual orientation, period,

In general, it's becoming so widespread and annoying, that I've moved on to the cure of consuming much less western (meaning: American or certain British) media. So should you.

edit: Quite correct @ west being inept of portraying gay characters well. In fact, anime and manga do it extremely well indeed - any self-respecting anime fan should watch Junjou Romantica, where both the characters are extremely memorable and interesting, and the romantic side of things is portrayed extremely well. Better than 99% other shows I saw, at least.

I'm not Kuwaiti though, I'm statless .. بدون

lol

A lot of the time they just lump in a gay character or a black character or whatever just to appeal to all audiences, which I find stupid. If it fits the movie then fine, but otherwise I don't like it.

The two problems with this topic that is going around right now is that:

a) almost no character is "normal". This is true of gay characters and black characters, but also of white male characters. Because it's art, drama, we need to accentuate their characteristics to make them interesting. James Bond is't a regular guy who deals with bad guys and has a steady GF/wife. He's a super-handsome, heroic guy who bangs 1-2 different supermodels each movie. If a character is subtly gay, that's about as exciting as someone who is subtly straight. There are places for it, of course, but most stories like to exaggerate characteristics including sexuality - gay or straight.

b) relatability. When a story is told, interactive or not, you enjoy the story by imagining to some extent that you are in the situation yourself. You save the day, you get the girl...whatever it is. You are the hero. The difference between being attracted to a man or a woman is a pretty big difference to most people. So having a gay hero saving or wooing a man breaks the immersion to most straight men. Romancing a man is simply not interesting to them, so the story becomes uninteresting. This makes it a challenge to write a story when you need to make money and you are going to lose a large portion of your potential audience.

Specifically in games it can be less of an issue when romance has nothing to do with the story and the sexuality of the character can be what ever the player wants to be (Master Chief could be gay). It can also be more of an issue if it is key to the story. The beauty of titles like Mass Effect is that they tailor the story to the player so everyone can have the experience that suits them. In this way, games are ahead and probably always will be ahead of other types of media.

I really dont think anyone cares. There are plenty of gay people that you cant tell whom are gay and that should be how they are represented in games. If you make a gay character that makes the stereotypical gay voice and does over the top gay things people will likely be offended.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
