The wording here is faulty. Nintendo will be "alive" even if both 3DS and Wii U bombed. I know that the information in the OP doesn't suggest that this isn't the case, but the title is so click-bait that it's just stating some kind of pointless question.

This thread would be much better with reports in the OP and a much more detailed analysis of what has happened in the past 3 years with Nintendo. That way, more people can actually give informed opinions on what might happen for the remainder of this generation.

The problem is that, just like home consoles the consumer sees increasingly less value in buying new consoles over and over again. With the graphic fidelity beeing increasingly harder to notice, the sells will become increasingly higher. People wont understand why they have to buy a new console to play the same games.

With that said, Nintendo has a good strategy of not going over the top with the hardware to keep costs under control. For now, the 3DS will have to do, but Nintendo is expanding into new markets.

They "used" have around $4 billion in cash. Rest of them are assets. Total $8 billion or something. Among those $4 billion $1 billion is already spend to buy back Hiroshi Yamauchi's descendants share as they were not happy. Its a wonder how "time" and "money" flies by.

I think Japan will keep them alive off the 3DS for longer than America will keep Sony or MS alive.

No it cannot. While a few big games left such as MH, Pokemon Z might grace the platforms and sell in the millions Nintendo also relies on hardware sales bringing in profit as well. 3DS has never been stellar at that (sold at a considerable loss it's first year)and it seems to be in decline already. With few possible big hits left and flagging hardware sales I don't doubt seeing it's successor in 18 months.
