The problem is that, just like home consoles the consumer sees increasingly less value in buying new consoles over and over again. With the graphic fidelity beeing increasingly harder to notice, the sells will become increasingly higher. People wont understand why they have to buy a new console to play the same games.

 

With that said, Nintendo has a good strategy of not going over the top with the hardware to keep costs under control. For now, the 3DS will have to do, but Nintendo is expanding into new markets.
