The caveat in question is the launch parity clause — a request that ID@Xbox developers launch the Xbox One version of their games at the same time as other platforms. This clause tends to be a thorny issue for developers making a game for multiple platforms.

Basically, if you want to release a game on XBox One you can do so only if it releases at the same time as the PS4 version, or of course BEFORE the PS4 version.

No PS4 first and XBOne later, unless you have signed a timed exclusive with Playstation. In that case they will do a case by case kind of deal to see if they wish to bring you on board their console.

The reason devs find issue with this is because unlike big time devs with big time publishers behind them, they don't have tons and tons of cash just lying around where they can just postpone launch of a title to port it to another console first. They need to get the title out the door and generate some cash so they can then work on the other version.

MS clause does not allow them to do that and is the root of the issue.

Almost clever, except there aren't any decent 3rd party exclusives coming to PS4. Maybe Deep Down...
