Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is the Titanfall review embargo a bad sign?

For anyone truly concerned about this (and not just someone who tries to spread negativity about Xbox One at every opportunity) here's a thought, why don't you wait for a review? Duh

Except that pre-release reviews for online only games are almost worthless.

Why?

See Battlefield 4.

The experience the reviewers had will not be the same millions of players will have when the game is finally released.

Issues will pop up that the reviewers didn't or even couldn't see.

A review the week after release would be fine though.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If only, they were interested in the game...

seems like their afraid to let any info get out too soon. i mean, we have a leak of 15 maps but we still don't have confirmation of what's included on the retail disc. are all 15 on the disc or are some of those part of the 3 "content" packs in the season pass?

15Maps on disc 5 modes.

i've seen the leaks, i've not seen EA or respawn confirm them as being availible as part of the initial purchase..  i have, however, read an article where respawn refused to comment when directly asked about the number of maps and modes included.

if i'm wrong, link me to the statement because i can't find it.

I wish that all games would be reviewed 5-7 days before release. That way, I can cancel my pre-order if it sucks. At this point, no metascore would shock me for Titanfall. My prediction is in the 78-93 range.

I just looked through the guide. Dont know why DLC would have named maps, outlines and strageties already

They don't want any info at all, they don't want any sort of negativity. They pushed back the 360 version because they don't want it in the spotlight. MS is making absolutely sure that they get as many people on X1 as possible.

It's quite sad, but it's fun to see. Guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Not sure why this is an issue. A day before release is pretty standard. A lot of Xbox exclusives among multiplat games have day before embargo's. I find the only one who breaks this mold or trend is ND. I remember they had the UC2 review from IGN 2 weeks before release, Every other dev is usually day before or day of. It's the day afters you want to stay away from.

I like how they say monday at 9pm PST. rather than Tuesday the 11th at 12am EST.

The embargo lifts right as the game launches in NA.

IGN is in California I believe, they always use PST when announcing something.

According to a friend of mine who listens to IGN podcasts they were talking recently about how review embargoes are getting harsher so that all the sites are on the same footing. This means that IGN doesn't get to put out their review 3 days before everyone else, and review embargoes get later in hopes that the smaller sites can have their review ready as most of the smaller sites are not full time. This could be why some larger games like Titanfall have their embargo comparitively later to previous large releases, or simply that the online nature of the title makes early reviews difficult.
