I'm playing the game with a friend and he is a hardcore Tales of fan. I can always count on him to translate everything. He beat TotA 6 times so I think I can rely on him to understand everything for me .

Depends on the game. I wouldn't want a 10 minute cutscene of Mario talking to Luigi, just like I wouldn't want Metal Gear Solid V to be a game without a single line of dialogue.

I don't really have a preference here, I generally prefer the game the developers want to give me. Provided I've done my due diligence and researched the game beforehand, of course. I enjoy games with amazing story lines, I enjoy games where I can influence the story line, and I enjoy games that aren't story focused.
