Forums - Nintendo - What if the Wii U was as powerful as the PS4?

Would it?

Yes! 61 37.42%

No! 101 61.96%

Total:162

Little would be different. The console's situation would be a little better and it would have more third party games.

Simple question. If the Wii U was as powerful as the PS4, or heck even the PS4 when it originally launched, would it have this generation won?

Basically, let's say that in 2012 Nintendo released a boring new system with XBO specs for $300 with the pro controller instead of the gamepad and they named it the Nintendo Titan or something badass like that. Would it be the undisputed champion of the generation? Would it reign supreme over all?

If the WiiU was as powerful as PS4 and sold at $399 with a gamepad, It would of definitely sold 10 million or more by now!!!

WiiU would of had a much bigger lead, the main problem with the WiiU is that the graphic were very similar to the PS360 and these console owners never made the jump.

I swear this is becoming a weekly thread.

It is lol

I still think 3rd parties would still shun it. Personally i dont think Wii U is the problem, it is a decent piece of hardware and achieves what it sets out to do. Its perception that is Nintendos biggest problem, if Nintendo want to get back in the mix then they have to do what they have done on 3DS, pump out quality 1st party titles one after the other. Many people cite lack of 3rd party support as one of Wii Us biggest problems, yet arguably Nintendo have virtually carried the 3DS on the back of its 1st party titles as 3rd party support is also pretty scarce. Not supporting Wii in its last 2 years also may have lost a lot of trust, whilst Sony, although they had a slow start supported PS3 untill the very end, thus earning trust in their brand.
Nintendo need to increase output, great games will help sell systems and more importantly dont give up on the system, keep supporting it and gaining trust among gamers once again.

If it was x86 and was easy to port multiplats so most developers would do it, instead of the Wii U which is powerpc so its a pain in the ass for developers to port, it would get a lot more multiplats and I think it could come in second if Nintendo did everything right, but I doubt it could come in first.

Nintendo didnt change codes. It was Sony and MS. The ps360 are powerpc but the XB1 and PS4 arent. If Nintendo did everything right it could come in first. Do you know what is right for Nintendo to do? Acquire third parties and make them First Parties. Nintendo has the money to buy Tqke Two interactive whick make the 2k games. They have the money to buy Ubisoft. They have money to buy Sega and Capcom. If they just buy Take Two and Ubi then they will make money and cause 50% of people who do not have a Wii U to buy a Wii U for Nba 2k AC WWE 2k and later entries to Watch Dogs. If this were to happen Nintendo would make millions and even billions if dollars in the long run.

I honestly can't take this seriously, the main point is for Nintendo to make a profit, if they spent all this money buying big third parties out their shareholders would be like wtf look at these huge loses and it would take forever for them to make that money back.  Also where did you get that 50% number from?

No. Why? Its Nintendo which is the best company out of the 3 but third parties wont develop games for it because they know it wont sell. As for the code being the same it wasnt Nintys fault that the Wii U doesn't have the same code as PS and XB. It has the same code as PS3 and XB360 but not XB1 and PS4. Sony and MS changed code not Nintendo. Third parties don't develop as much for Ninty consoles because they know that they would have to compete with Nintendo and its games. A true Nintendo fan plays Nintendo games. The N64 was powerful and so was the GC but where did that get them? I think that is why they took a step back from power and leaned forward to innovation. It is not Nintendo who turned their back on third parties. Third parties turned their back on Nintendo. It is not Nintendo who turned their back on gamers. It is gamers who turned their back on Nintendo.

Get real.

They dont develop casue ninty conosle owners dont buy their games.  Just check out some threads on here, vast majority claim they buy ninty console ONLY for ninty games.  Thats a fact.

Ninty on N64 screwd it self with cartridges,  Ninty tried to milk 3rd prties more then Sony due to cartriges even though they begged them to use CD.  With the added cost and Ninty being control freaks they ran to Sony.  They were arrogant and they payed for it, and are still paying for it.

GC and X were dead on arrival, PS2 build to much a lead and was the console to own that gen.  There was no competing vs that juggernaut.

Its Ninty that refused to grow up as those gamers did, give those gamers the games they want and sales will follow.  If not just do what they been doing and they can watch sales plummet for two decades now.

History has proven that a consoles power does not mean superior sales.

A consoles game library does.

At launch people would say, "t's underpowered and PS4 and Xbox 720 will blow it out of the water.". Devs would say the system is too weak to handle their games. Then when the PS4 launches it will be too late for the Wii U.

Wii U has a better game library than PS4...

Pretty much and they'll also say they can't compete with Nintendo's 1st Party games .
