Forums - Gaming - PlatinumGames’ Creative Producer Attacks Polygon, Claims Games Journalists Should Go Back to School

Very few of these "game journalists" ever took "journalism". Just a bunch of bloggers and pseudo-celebrities nowadays. Professional wrestling has the same issues with its coverage. I doubt it will ever improve as every avenue of journalism is going down the toilet.

I blame the internet...and I'm not really joking about that. I mean if I wanted to, I could make a gaming website and make my own articles without ever taking any classes about journalism, slowly you get popular and you become like Polygon.

This will also become a problem outside of gaming..movies, music, books, etc are slowly starting to suffer the same. The main difference (at least for now) is that the famous sites are still there and are very popular, they also hire real journalist unlike the gaming sites.

They probably will need to work on outside IP in order to survive.

Which is not really a terrible scenario, assuming they can get the work. If there's anything I've learned from GAF, it's that Platinum should make every game.

(But seriously. They should make the Contra reboot.)

All of this reminds me... I wonder when we'll see that CBOAT rumored game that has some sort of MS exclusivity. Maybe they're saving the announcement for the Japanese Xbone launch, if that ever happens.

"I didn't say whose business situation changed!"

Is he saying that Platinum's business situation didn't change when Sega decided they didn't want to spend money on anything that wasn't Sonic or Aliens anymore? I can understand how it must be incredibly frustrating to have the media thumping on the same stupid things (like the Bayonetta 2 Wii U "controversy") and cherry picking quotes, but this seems like a strange thing to get sassy about.

It could make it sound like Platinum themselves was in a weaker position than they are.

It will be interesting to see who they get work from going forward, though. W101 was a disaster, and while Bayonetta might do better (it will sell better than W101 for sure, but to what degree. If Nintendo calls them back, it'll be to farm their IPs (which would be a good thing indeed, c'mon StarFox). But how much original work is Platinum going to get from anyone after this point? And that, of course, defeats the point of Platinum founders leaving Capcom to do independent work.

They are in a weak position, though.  I can understand why they'd be somewhat desperate to continue their relationship with Nintendo.  I don't know if other publishers turned down Bayonetta or not but Sega having control of the IP has obviously not been the best scenario for them.  Actually, haven't all their original IP been failures to some degree?  They probably will need to work on outside IP in order to survive.

The best thing that could possibly happen for Platinum would be if Nintendo decided to really push content on the Wii U despite potential losses, especially M-rated material.  That could mean sequels to Bayonetta 2 and Vanquish or more new IP.  The worst thing would be if Nintendo backed away from them completely.

As i said, i think Nintendo will call them back for IP-farming, but only if Platinum shows they can keep budgets under control. That seems to be Sega's issue, and even on Wii U, a game like Bayonetta 2 could scrape a small profit if they keep costs in line. It depends on if Platinum isn't actually very wasteful.

That could be the reason they've been having trouble getting work, though. I do wish this industry were more transparent financially...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That would be nice.  Then we'd know who to blame for real, rather than the "I'll blame the side I like the least" system we use now.

Whatever keeps the doors open.  Prostitution, drug dealing, making Sonic games, whatever it takes.

Is that CBOAT game what you're waiting on?  If you love CBOAT so much, why don't you marry it?  Baka!  Baka~!

Platinum Games should develop Star Fox Contra God Hand 2 meth.

Well, as much as I like Platinum, I can't imagine their position being anything but weak.

And yes, it will be interesting. From the survey Konami sent out a while back, they sounded very interested in doing a Metal Gear Rising 2. Other than that, it's anybody's guess what's next for PG. I'm feeling pessimistic, so I'm going with insolvency. But I do hope I'm wrong, and I hope they can find a way to start doing more original stuff again. Maybe smaller, self-published stuff through digital distribution.

if they make Vanquish 2....all will be good!

they will make atleast a $60 return!!! :p

So far Platinum is happy working with Nintendo, and I think they could be open to the idea of becoming a second party developer. I don't believe that Platinum can remain an independent developer for too long.

Polygon is an absolutely worthless website that should be blacklisted from every major gaming company.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I agree, video game journalism is the most ridiculous thing in this planet: it is people that don´t know how to write talking about people that don´t know how to talk to people that don´t know how to read.
Also, the video game news come from the most stupid sources, I could plant 3 or 4 rumours today and half of them would end up on Kotaku or IGN as "insider news", I tested that a while ago, cannot say which rumour it was, but, sure enough, it spreaded like wildfire. And it was lies.

Phil Spencer says "I will take a big dump today" and Destructoid says "Halo 5 confirmed", this is video game journalism.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
