so, I think I'll be able to get a pokemon game thanks to the club nintendo promotion, that is if I don't have any problem with the registration... so I'm deciding which one I should go for. Pokemon emerald is the last (and only) game that I played so I don't know much about the series, I thought both games were virtually the same but then I checked the wikipedia page and saw that pokemon y is slightly ahead of pokemon x on both gamerankings and metacritic. I'm not that picky to care about one point in an extremely subjective scale but I wanted to ask if there is something that makes one game different from the other so I can choose the one that suits me better.

thanks for all your help!

The real choice you must make is not whether you pick X or Y but which starter you pick.

what? really? why?

Well its only the biggest descion you will ever make. This will be your very first pokemon that will be your companion throughout your entire journey!

haha yes I'm considering all this now that I have the pokemon fever

It probably depends on your opinion on the Pokemon in the game.

I preferred X. It's a minor quibble but encountering X (and the scenes prior) looks much better than Y.

So its not just the case that all the ones in X are female and all the ones in Y are male then? ITs still just a handful of exclusive pokemon for each?

Pretty much, there are also different mega evolutions tones to collect in each, so you can mega-evolve some pokemon in X that you cant in Y and vice-versa. Also, there are a couple of pokemon that can evolve with different mega-stones, so each version gives you a different mega-evolution for those pokemon.

Don't compare a duo of Pokémon games by review scores, because they're pretty much identical. But I will say X is the "best" of them, because I like the Mega Stones you can obtain in X better than the ones that are in Y. (Mega Stones are items for temporarily evolving Pokémon mid-battle to Mega Pokémon)

Yep.

Mega Charizard Y is better than Mega Charizard X too
