Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should make a Wii U bundle with crazy value

If they do this, I wouldn't be surprise if they do so near Mario Kart 8's launch. That will an almost perfect timing for this.

Nintendo Classic Bundle: Wii U + Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Prime 3, Xenoblade, Zelda Twilight Princess, VC: Super Mario 64, Super Metroid, Zelda Link to the Past

Cannot resist waiting for Smash Bros. 4 Wii U bundle if this happens before Mario Kart 8 and Gamestop be damned.

You might want to removed "PS+" from the title. People are not reading the OP.

I agree that Nintendo needs to pull out all the stops and offer some ridiculously crazy value in order to make people bite. I especially like the idea of a bundle that doesn't focus on platforming, as that's the only area where the Wii U shines right now, so it's the area of least need. That, or a bundle with a focus of many different genres. An Adventure bundle would be enticing.

They need to go all Ronco with it and keep yelling, "and that's not all! We'll throw in five more games for absolutely no cost to you!"

Really, it's time to desperate.

I'll tell you right now, with a price cut, I would consider an RPG bundle.

If you're not talking about a PS+ subscription, why bring it up at all?

It's the value proposition strategy I like. It worked for Sony.

In either case, I don't think it's a worthwhile idea. As I wrote, games like Super Mario Galaxy, Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii are still best-sellers.

Are they? They're not on the bestseller lists right now.

Such that they are selling, they're selling to Wii owners who aren't upgrading to Wii U. Nintendo could make far more money from these people by getting them to own a Wii U than by waiting around for them to pick up the remaining retail copies. Then they can sell them full priced new Wii U titles that are sequels.

They sell themsevles; they don't need a bundle.

It's not for the bundle to sell THEM, it's for THEM to sell Wii U.

Same goes for Virtual Console titles. Consumers will continue to buy games like Mario 64, Super Mario World, etc. without a bundle. I think the better solution for Nintendo would be to advertise the Wii U's backward compatability and its huge library of Virtual Console games.

An advertisement that sells the WiiU as the only system that supports Super Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, Street Fighter II, Super Metroid, Contra III, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Wii Sports, and Super Mario 3D World would be an effective one.

No it wouldn't, because the Wii supports all of those at a fraction of the price.

You're right. Edited.

Yeah exactly, there should be a variety of bundles. No one thing will make people buy a Wii U, so carefully target at all different kinds of gamers - Current MS/Sony Gamer, RPG Player, etc. Sell the packs you didn't buy as 'DLC bundles' on the eShop for extra upselling value.

They need to go all Ronco with it and keep yelling, "and that's not all! We'll throw in five more games for absolutely no cost to you!"

Really, it's time to desperate.

Yes. The time has passed for trickling out the back catalogue at marked up prices.

I understand the value proposition, but it's a weird non sequitur. I think it confuses your thesis more than it clarifies it.

As to your other points, I think you've just argued against your original post. Everything you want in these bundles is available on Wii, so why would a consumer spend $300 for WiiU when he/she could get all these games on Wii for $130? As you said, "the Wii supports all of those at a fraction of the price."

Because they wouldn't be offering the bundle for Wii, of course.

They should charge for online first, but make it super cheap. Like $20 a year. Perhaps that can attract some of the COD crowd to choosing the WiiU over ps4/ xb1, but I doubt it.

I think the OP was edired.  People were reading it.

Ah, yeah, now that you've clarified your position, it does sound like a great idea. Pack it in with games that they've already recouped dev costs on and it's basically no cost to them.

The only downside, financially, is that they'd also start having to include Wiimotes in there to get the Wii games running out of the box. But those don't cost much either at this point.
